I've been coming to these boards for over 2 years now and Bette's posts have proven to be some of the best resources for inspiration I have had throughout this journey. Thank you Bette, you rock!!!!

Thank you. I'm just trying to keep things in perspective and offering an alternative to freaking people - especially the newbies - out with nothing but tales of failure. Yes, there ARE failures, but it's wrong to lead people to believe that EVERY band ends with failure.

I couldn't agree more! My surgeon told me before WLS that I would never lose all the weight if I chose the Lapband (I weighed 351 lbs), but it felt like the best choice for me. I stuck to my guns and four and a half years later, I have lost and kept off 180 lbs and weigh 170 lbs. I use the band to help me not overeat but I still have to make the tough choices to eat healthy and exercise. It isn't an Easy  Button that takes away all accountability, It's there to remind me that I eat for nutrition and for pleasure, not to overeat because of boredom, sadness, etc.

I agree that it isn't for everyone, but it has worked for me. Sometimes people ask if I'll ever have it removed, but I don't plan on it. It's become a part of my life now and I'm used to it. I can't imagine eating the size portions I used to (or even that some skinny people eat!) and don't feel like I'm getting cheated by not being able to eat two slices of pizza or a whole hamburger. This is my new reality and, frankly, it fits great!

I am so relieved that my Esophogram showed improvement yesterday.  I was really anticipating being told my band would have to come out.  The PA and radiologist agreed there are still some motility issues, but the barium flowed through and I didn't choke and burp like last time.  It is important to recognize that there can be problems, but being a bit on the cautious side (keeping the band a bit loose) can help avoid more serious issues.  I also lost 3.5 lb and I'm down another lb this morning.  My PA said "look at you losing three and a half pounds with no fill, no one does that!".
I am good to go as long as my symptoms continue to diminish and I continue to lose!
