Not EVERY Lapband story ends in heartache
Not every Lapband story ends in tragedy and heartache.
Some DO.
But not ALL.
Some bands fail.
But not ALL.
Some surgeons have no business doing band surgeries.
But not ALL.
Some people have physiologies that will not tolerate the band.
But not ALL.
I will never tell someone to ignore the statistics of which surgery has the best results. NO surgery is ever going to be right for anyone. Do your research - here AND out in the world. Talk to surgeons, nurses, nutritionists, your PCP. Talk to people who have had WLS, not people who have NOT. Weigh the pros and cons of each surgery against your needs, wants and hopes.
This is not a decision you should make in haste, like buying a candy bar at the grocery store register. Make your decision based on what YOU learn and decide, NOT on what someone you don't know and never met insists is best for you. If it's something other than the band - or even no surgery at all - that's fine. I wish you all the best.
If you decide the band IS the right choice for you, wonderful. Welcome to the band world. Try not to let other people's experiences cloud your own happiness and success. YOU are the one who is in charge of your life.
Pay attention to what you body, your band and your brain tell you. If something seems wrong, DON'T use the forum as your first resource on what you should do. Talk to your SURGEON and other members of your medical support team. Always remember that THEY work for YOU, not the other way around.
Most important - please remember that NO weight loss surgery is ever guaranteed. Things can go wrong with ALL of them. The best we can all do is investigate, evaluate and decide what is right for us.
And please remember that not EVERY band surgery ends badly.

So true...everyone's experience is different and valuable. I am feeling a bit more positive after a relatively easy week...my stomach seems to be relaxing a bit and is allowing me to eat a better variety od foods. Tomorrow is my Esophogram and I am hopeful it shows an open (enough) stoma....
Thanks for being here Bette!
