The band doesn't rust... BUT if your friend likes to vomit and have acid reflux...
Seriously, the failure rate is 30%. I dont recommend it.

Ok, I have to ask this, at the risk of sounding dumb again . I was told you can't vomit with the band, reason, vomit can't come back up threw the band from the stomach. For that reason I was given anti nausea pills from the get go. I have used them, and can say inhave only vomited once since being banded. I can say I have wished I could throw up, because feeling the rolling and pressure of it wanting to come up was one of my worst experiences. So, with that being sad, why are people saying how much vomiting they are doing?
I can only guess who told you this, but it's not true. I had a stomach flu last September and was vomiting violently for 12 hours. I was scared to death that I messed my band up, but it was fine. My PA told me the only regurgitation you have to worry about is when it comes from below the band, and even then, chronic vomiting is mor concerning than an occasional upchuck.

"So why would my doctor give me anti nausea meds to carry and keep on had to keep me from vomiting. I do know she stated you didn't want to bring anything back through the band. I am so confused, here being 4 years out and I guess i still don't understand the band."
I personally think a lot of WLS surgeons* have no idea what the band truly is like once placed. They know how to install and adjust, than there are all the myths. Those of us banded can speak about what the experience really is. I am 8 yrs out and have vomited many times and my band is still in place. The anti nausea meds dont always work, especially if you have like a wicked stomach bug.
ETA the word surgeon , duh to me lol
