I am 24 years old. I am 5'7 and weigh 234lbs. I have a BMI of 36% I am a size 20. I have been battling weight loss my entire life. I have sleep apnea, but I cannot breath through my nose so I am not able to use my CPAP. I was actually in the military but had to get out because I couldn't meet their height/weight requirements. I was seeing if I was a possible candidate for the Lap Band or any other solution. Thanks for the advice in advanced.

That depends on if your self-pay or have insurance. If self-pay, then u should. If insurance then it would depend on what your ins. covers. You'll have to ask them.

That being said............Lap-band is actually the worst possible choice. Of the 4 WLS's it has the lowest success rate. Please check out the RNY, VSG and DS forums!

A few things to ponder.

If you aren't able to use your CPAP because you can't breathe through your nose, you need to see an ENT or other specialist to fix that problem.  Could be something relatively easy to fix, like a deviated septum, could be something fairly serious.

If you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and aren't using your CPAP, you need to run back to whomever diagnosed you STAT.  This is an EXTREMELY serious situation.  Don't mean to scare you unnecessarily but at least part of the reason for the CPAP is to prevent you from dying in your sleep.

Third, do you plan to try to re-enter the military?  If so, WLS is not the way to go as it will permanently disqualify you.  If not, I suggest that you do look into all forms of WLS before deciding on any of them.

Best wishes.
