We all have our opinions for newbies on this forum.  We should not be advising them against the band or for the band we should be supporting them and giving them information that they can use to make a decision based on what is good for them.  Who said there was a 50% band failure where did you get that information?  If that was true the insurance company would not be paying for band surgery, period.  Doctors would not use it in their own bodies period!  It would be off the market period!   If you feel that strong about your band failures you should be picking Dr. offices and calling lawyers to save the world from the band!  Take your energy where it can help you and your friends that have had band problems.  I am not here to fight with you and when you ask questions like where are past members that have been banded are?  They are living their lives with the band if they no longer have the band like you want us to believe 50 percent of them don't, than why are they not on this forum complaining like the 3 or 4 people who have nothing to do all day,  but feed negativity to this board!  The older crowd does not want to hear it anymore they have lives to live!  This is the last energy I am going to waste on you band bashes, their I said it!  Again, I feel bad for anyone who has almost died from their bands but, you need to stop scaring everyone else to think it will happen any moment!!!!!!  Yes, people die everyday from overweight, RNY surgery, Sleeve Surgery, and even band surgery it is a fact of life!  I am not going to open or look at any of your feedback because quite frankly I am sick of your rants! So now you know why everybody is hiding.  They can't take anymore from the band bashes that's why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And, quite frankly I don't blame them!
Save your energy because I am not going to read any of your posts!  So post away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will be back in a couple of months hope this lap board gets better, and weeds out negativity for the newbies sake.  Now go ahead and save the world from the big bad BAND!

From one happy bandster,

The best way to support newbies is to encourage them to become educated on the facts...and the facts point towards safer, more effective weight loss surgeries.

Some people need to lose weight due to health concerns. I am glad that you are happy with your band and according to your ticker, you have lost a lot of weight. Some people may, again, for health reasons, need to reach a normal BMI. It would be unsupportive to not bring up the fact that other methods are likely going to be more successful.

Yes, people die every day from a variety of causes...in fact, Hippos kill hundreds, if not thousands, of people each year. Yet, I am not scared to leave my house because I know it is not statistically likely for Hippos to be roaming loose in the area where I live. This is where statistics can help. I would give more consideration to a complication that occurs in 5 out of every 10 patients than I would to a complication that occurs in 1 out of every 500 patients.

There are sleeve patients on the VSG forum right now that I know started off as a newbie on the lap band board and were able to make a better decision for them with a little bit of knowledge.

Sorry, I'm not going anywhere.  I don't want anyone to go through what I did and believe that people deserve to hear the truth.......both sides.

In another thread you stated.
" The sleeve is newer than the band and does not have enough people that have had it to say there won't be problems long term with the sleeve.  Most insurances don't cover the sleeve because it is so new some insurances are just starting to cover it. "

I responded with this,

History

The first successful gastrectomy was performed by Theodor Billroth in 1881 for cancer of the stomach.

Historically, gastrectomies were used to treat peptic ulcers.[1] These are now usually treated with antibiotics, as it was recognized that they are usually due to Helicobacter pylori.

In the past a gastrectomy for peptic ulcer disease was often accompanied by a vagotomy, to reduce acid production. Nowadays, this problem is managed with proton pump inhibitors.

Christian Albert Theodor Billroth (26 April 1829 at Bergen auf Rügen in the Kingdom of Prussia – 6 February 1894) was a Prussian-born Austrian surgeon and amateur musician.

As a surgeon, he is generally regarded as the founding father of modern abdominal surgery.

You never responded to my fact based information. Instead you went on to post another unsubstantiated and unsupported thread that you deemed factual.

Look, I am more then willing to discuss your concerns about the negativity on this board, and hopefully reaching a solution to what you and others view as negativity on this forum, but I cannot do it alone. I need your participation in this. If you really want this board to reflect support, then we need equal participation from both POV.

Please reconsider replying to this thread.

Thank
Lisa
