Hi Everyone! I was banded on Monday and things are not as smooth as I thought. I'm still experiencing a lot of port site pain. My questions though are how to take medicine, I know it has to be smaller than an m&m but I have several to take so should I wait say 5 minutes inbetween each pill? 10 minutes?  And of course I already forgot my other question! Maybe I'll remember later!

Port incision pain is normal and can lat for weeks.  I cut my pills in half and it takes me anywhere from 10-30 min to take them.  You can get a pill cutter at your pharmacy for a couple of dollars.

I would wait 10 in between.  My doc gave me liquid pain killer...made it less scary for me.  Sorry you're still feeling bad.

thanks for the replies, I sure hope this much pain doesn't last for weeks!

Hi Angelatanr,

Are any of your medicines available in liquid form, by any chance? That might be something to look into, too. I think you could probably call and speak to a pharmacist and they could answer the question for you.

The port pain can be intense for awhile. A lot of it depends on where it's placed. Mine was kind of on top of an old gallbladder incision which was so big that it was still kinda numb, so I didn't experience that much pain with the port.  If it gets really bad, make sure you contact your surgeon just to be on the safe side.

Hope you heal well and feel better soon.

~Nic

PS. I see that you have liquid pain killer... we must have been posting at the same time!

 Hi Angel

It will get better. Just remember you are healing.
Did the dr give you liquid medicine to take?

Please rest and take your meds. My port was sore/tender also. It needs to heal.

Just remember you had major surgery and your body  needs to heal itself.

I had liquid pain killer (loratab) but it wasn't helping so he switched me to norco which  I break in 2. jury is still out on wether that will be better or not. Pain wouldn't be that bad except when I have to sit up/ laydown/ walk around. I think it's that muscle that hurts so bad.

Well, think what they did to during surgery ? Def would hurt? LOL...It will pass. Just stay ahead of the pain by taking your meds.

I was sore about a week. It got better as the week went on.

I remember not being able to bend over at all for several days.  My husband had to put on my shoes for me.  I don't remember when that pain went away.  Strange since it was only about 6 weeks ago!  Hang in there, you've had surgery.  Take it easy and let your body heal.  :)
