4.5 weeks post-op and I'm so HUNGRY all the time!

I just wanted to share that I got my insurance issues solved (well, sort of...temporarily...) and I'm seeing my surgeon on Monday.

I had breakfast at 8:30 this morning and by 10:30 my stomach was growling and I couldn't stop thinking about food.  I had a great smoothie for lunch around 12:30, plus a slice of bread with cheese...but by 3:00 I was ravenous again.

Hopefully doc will say it's time for a fill.  ??

Hey Sabina, great job :)
I see my surgeon next Friday and will be a month out.
I get hungry alot also.

I am about 3-4 hours between meals. Does that qualify for a fill I wonder. What type of bread, did you toast it?

Didn't toast it...it was Pepperidge Farm Oatmeal Bread, 200 cals.  Not a good calorie choice but I hate those wimpy little diet bread slices...

Maybe not a good calorie choice, but a good healthy choice. Sometimes (yeah ok.........a LOT of times) some of the healthier options have a lot of calories. I think it's all about keepint it balanced. Oatmeal is healthy. Kroger has a 9 grain bread that is really good. Have no idea about the calories in it, but I have it a few times a wk. I buy a loaf and freeze it. I've noticed that my postashios have a lot of calories too, but still a healthy option.

Now the "Healthy Choice" dinners........don't get me started! lol

Agreed...I generally don't like food that is artificially low-cal because it often has some kind of chemical additive that makes it taste bad.  That's why I prefer things like butter over margarine, real cheese over "reduced fat" rubber, etc.  Now I'm learning to eat smaller quantities!

 Hi Sabina,

For about 4 months post op, I ate 5-6 small meals per day, every 2-3 hours per my nutritionists advice.  It really helped me to avoid getting hungry while adapting to my new eating habits.  I still only ate about 700-900 calories, but I was able to get my protein in this way. One of my snacks I used to make was jello instant SF pudding that I added a couple of scoops of Bariatric Advantage shake powder to.  I portioned them out into 1/2 cup containers.  I think they were 20 gr protein each and I would eat one or two per day when I fell below my 60gr protein requirement.  Another snack was tuna salad made with reduced fat mayo....just some ideas to get you over the hunger hump.

Hi Stephanie,
How many grams of carbs are you eating a day?  I want to eat SF Pudding...but I try to stay around 30-40grams of carbs daily.  Between my protein shakes, veggies and salads...I already there.    I'm trying to figure out how I can scoot it in from time to time.

at that time, my nutritionist said 125 carbs per day...

125 carbs at 4 calories each=500 calories
60 gr protein at 4 calories each=240 calories

The rest from healthy fats, avocados, olive oil etc for a total of 900 calories per day target

Nunnery, each NUT may have a different idea, check with yours. I am on 60 g of protein and am around 35-55 carbs which is between 450-600 calories. My NUT focus on proteins, healthy food and to only eat when hungry.
