Lap Band removal

Have any of you had your lap band removed and if so, can you tell me what to expect.  I'm having problems and there is no fluid in my band but they think a lot of scar tissue has built up around it and the port.  Is this a more dangerous surgery?  Is this day surgery or do you stay overnight?  Also, if your insurance did not pay to have he band put in, will it not pay to have it taken out if you're having problems?

 Kathy:

Sadly, there are a lot of people who have had it done.

You may want to try the fail lapbands forum, the revisions forum, etc.

I don't know anything about the procedure, but wish you a simple transition.

 hi,

Not sure about just having it removed since I also had a sleeve revision at the same time but also had a decent amount of scar tissue which meant it took a little longer than it should have.

Mine was much easier surgery but I think it was because my surgeon who did the revision has done so many revisions he was a better surgeon.

I self paid for both even though I had major band complications I have a WLS exclusion in my policy and they would not cover removal even if I had not had a revision.

Good Luck.

I had my lap band removed, but also revised to the sleeve in the same procedure. So, I can't say what just the removal would be like, but I am very happy I was able to get mine removed. I had random tightening of my band and it was miserable.

Best of luck to you. Keep us updated.

I just had mine out last week along with my gallbladder. I'm sore but that's to be expected. It gets a bit better each day. I stayed on night and once I ate some breakfast they let me go home. Insurance should pay for a removal because it isn't really elective at that point. If it's causing problems it's a medical condition.
