You might have had a little too much or a little too fast.
With soup, like water, it's sip, sip, sip. Eat very, very slowly.
Take care.

The worst pain I ever felt after surgery was when I sipped on hot chicken broth--O.M.G. I thought I was having a heart attack!
Later I found out that that was normal --I can't remember if it was the diaphragm that was heat and cold sensitive or something else, but I was told to keep my fluids at room temp. for a while.
It gets better! Hang in there!

My doc's orders said 'full liquids --- cream soups, no tomato'
I think it is because of the acidity of the tomato soup (but it has never been a favorite of mine, so I didn't ask).
If you had a hernia repair at the same time as your band was placed, you might be a little more sensitive to the acid --- so, maybe try cream of chicken, or cream of mushroom (I added a little bit of hot sauce to those to spice them up).
