Question abou****er
I've always been a big water drinker. Before surgery I would gulp water all day long. My surgeon and nutritionist told me I wouldn't be able to after surgery, and that I should sip a lot. I've tried following orders, but it's so hard to take just a little sip when you're really thirsty. So my questions is...WHY can't you gulp water with the band? It's jus****er...it goes right through your pouch...doesn't it? It was really hot today and I was outside a lot, so I've been closer to gulping than sipping. Could I hurt my band? (15 days post op)
Thanks :)
Thanks :)

There are times in the day when I can take big gulps and times that I can't.
I think of it like a funnel.
Even though the fluid goes straight through, you can overfill the top of the funnel if you pour in too much too quickly.
You can't hurt your band with water, but you might find yourself needing to spit some of it back up.
Also, I think my esophagus tightens with cold fluid sometimes, especially if I take a big gulp.
So, tread lightly and drink as much as you want, in whatever size gulp works for you.

Thanks for the reply. The funnel analogy works well...I get it now. :)
