Hi!
New to the forum, hope someone can help me out on this matter.
Had a bariatric surgery done about 7 months ago and after that I suffer from post nasal drip, does anyone else recognize this?
At first I thougt it was just from a cold or flu, but it is persistant and came up a couple of days after surgery, so it has something do with the procedure.
I do not have any allergies (have checked about 1 year ago).
Could this be something involving the vagus nerve?
Hope all is well!

Hi Nnn,
I had what's called, "machine gun sneezing" from the damage to my Vagus nerve.
And, yes, I also had post nasal drip a lot with the band. Some people seem to get the sniffles as a "stop" sign... and others just get the sniffles, no matter what.
I took Allegra D and had to avoid doing crunches or bending "wrong." If I bent a certain way, I'd be sure to bring on a sneezing fit that would last for hours. I passed out from sneezing once and chipped a tooth! It was crazy! Saw so many docs and they were all clueless... didn't know about banding, the Vagus nerve, nuttin'! Finally, I found one who was educated and was able to help me.
What concerns me, though, is that this could be a sign that your diaphragm and the nerves are being irritated. Do you experience any left shoulder pain? Or is it just the post nasal drip? Have you talked with your surgeon about it? Do you find that any medication helps?

Hi Nic!
Thanks for your answer!
Sounds like you have been through a lot with all the snezing, passing out... Ouch! Good thing that you finally found a doctor that could tell you what´s going on. And know you told me about it, got to love the internet!
My diaphragm could be irritated due to fixing a hital hernia at the same time as doing the other procedure. They actually created a new gullet, a "wrap", since I sufferd a lot from reflux aswell.
Did your doctor say that the nerves could have an effect on the diaphragm? I used to sneaze alot right after surgery and I had suffer from at least 8 colds since surgery.... I still often have a runny nose/sniffels as well. I do not suffer from shoulder pain.
My surgeon don´t think much about the post nasal drip, beeing more focused on the stomach part. But this just might be a linked to the stomach...
Really appreciate your answer, knowing I´m not the only one with a weird side effect.
Best wishes
