The left shoulder pain never went away when I had the band. If it's not gone in a week or two, definitely express your concerns to your surgeon. A lot of people experience left shoulder pain after having the band for awhile, as well.

But, let's assume the pain you're experiencing is from the CO2 gas used during surgery and will dissipate the more you're able to walk. You can place a heating pad under your ribcage... sometimes that helps calm the diaphragm and the nerves down. But the best way to release the gas is through walking as much as you can without overdoing it.

Hope you feel better soon. Like I said, if the pain doesn't go away in a reasonable amount of time, talk to your doctor. I believed it when I was told it was "just gas." It wasn't... and some damage could have been avoided, probably.

I had hiatal hernia repair with my band also. The shoulder pain got less and less each day, but the rib cage pain from the hernia repair lasted a couple weeks. By day5 it was just there and Tylenol worked for that. I took my liquid pain meds every day at night tonsure a good nights sleep for nearly two weeks because I was off work and didn't need to drive. I think that really helped.

It should get better, but like she said, if it doesn't call your surgeons office.

Remember you had surgery. Take it easy for SIX weeks! I was so anxious to get back to exercising it was driving me crazy. But I waited and have not had any problems.

Hang in there and take care of yourself.

Hang in there BeachBunny!  Some people have that pain and some don't.  It is kind of scary cuz of the location.  I had it for probably about 1.5 wks.  My doc said it was gas from the surgery & the air they put in your tummy to make things visible for the scopes.  I took Gas-x strips.  Every once in awhile, I get it again - probably 3 times in last 2.5 years.

Congratulations on your surgery!!!
