For low carbers...or those stalled
Did you know that for every 4g of sugar in a serving that's equal to 1tsp of sugar? So, if you're watching carbs and think fruit flavored Greek yogurt is such a bargain think again. Look at the grams of sugar and divide it by 4. That will tell you how many tsp of sugar is in that little carton of yogurt. Chobani, if I recall, has about 6 tsp of sugar!
I was stalled for about a year due to prednisone and allowing more carbs back into my diet. The minute I was able to lower prednisone I still wasn't losing. BUT...the minute I cut out all processed foods, carbs other than green veggies and a few berry fruits, the weight started to drop. It's a slow go for me since I'm still on chemo and pred (both love to hold on to the fat and slows my metabolism), but I'm losing again. I'm the lowest I've been since surgery. I'll be in twoterville by next week!!!!!
My point??? If you're not losing like you used to really think about what you're putting in your mouth. I wasn't eating bread or pastas, but I was having yogurt, milk (look how much sugar is in milk!), ketchup, BBQ sauce...it all adds up. I now have 1g sugar Heinz ketchup (I'm a ketchup FREAK), no sugar BBQ from netrition that's pretty dang good, and Walden Farms 0 carbs/0 fat french dressing. It's made a HUGE difference. I don't eat yogurt anymore, and I use unsweetened almond milk.
I hope this can be of some help to someone. I've managed to lose 25 pounds in 10 weeks and that included a short cruise where I allowed myself a dessert a day :) and I'm not exercising like a nut either. 3 times a week I'll walk or swim for a half hour...nothing crazy. I do use the resistance bands a lot and do a lot of squats to help build muscle.

I totally agree with you! Carbs are evil, evil creatures, and they make you want more and more. For those of us who are super carb sensitive all it takes is one bite and it's all over with. I know when I keep my carbs under 25 I do great but I still haven't mastered staying on low carb I always slip up. Even tho I feel so much better when I low carb it, those evil carbs still tempt me. Congrats on still losing, you have an uphill battle that the rest of us don't, what with all the meds you have to take. Keep up the great work I'm proud of ya kiddo!
Oh Lady, you nailed it. When I go over, say, 40g of carbs I literally have to decarb and go through hell again. When I'm below it I'm rarely hungry, I lose weight, I'm not irritable, I don't feel the need to graze anymore...amazing that what my doc told me really works. I guess with being sick I just wasn't able to fully commit once I had a flare. I'm glad I'm back in the game and I've recently been helping people with my disease get carb leaned and they are losing some of their prednisone weight, too! :) That makes me triple happy.
And you have your own health battles, so you know EXACTLY what I'm going through. The band is really of no help to me, but it was for the first 8 months. Oh well...I'm glad I was given a head start with losing weight. Now the rest is solely up to me.
What's your slip up foods? Mine are ice cream, sweets of any kind...so I just don't bring them in the house. Instead, I make an mean protein shake that actually tastes like a milk shake and that satisfies me. Sometimes I'll indulge in a protein bar :)...Those seem to do the trick. Luckily I'm not a chips lover. I've been able to stay away from pastas, rice and breads since being banded. Phew!
Whatever your slip up food is try to find an alternative protein version?? Oh, I now LOVE low fat ricotta with some smashed up raspberries and some muscle milk light protein powder...throw in the freezer for a half hour and YUMMMMY!
