Many people go out of town for their LapBands.  I did a promotional video today for my new doctor (my surgeon retired last year) and he does the LapBand for less than $9K all inclusive.  I paid $9,950 for mine and it was worth every penny!

OK, please don't kill me... but, have you ever considered hypnotherapy? Or, even better, hypnotherapy and acupuncture in conjunction with one another? I know, it sounds like I'm all New Agey, but I really am not. BUT, if you don't have that much weight to lose and banding is a no-go, it might be a viable option for you.   I once lost over 50 pounds with a combo of hypnosis-acupuncture and homeopathic diet.

Just a thought. I know it's frustrating!

Hi Autumn,

I'm so sorry you were denied.  But I just wanted to check something...are you self-pay and the surgeon said no.  Are you insured and your insurance company said no.  Or are you insured and your surgeon said he thought your insurance company would say no.

Because depending on which one of those is the answer, there might be another step or two you could take.

Sorry to hear about your denial....but it does not have to be over yanno...I am sure your insurance denied you..because if you were self pay...surgeons don't care...

Now that being said....I don't know how ethical this is...but since you are so close...many people have put on "heavy clothes and weights at their "weigh in' at the surgeons office and visited Olive Garden, Burger King, Crispy Cream Donuts, and McDonald's for about 2-3 weeks to meet their surgery BMI requirements...

Good luck...

AutumnM.80 – here is where my Italian comes out, so you may need to read between the lines

Are you sure about your BMI? I mean, you may just be shorter than you think. Example, at 230 pounds a person 6ft 2in has a BMI of 29.5 and is considered overweight, but a 6 feet person’s BMI becomes 31.2 and is obese. Funny how just 2 inches can change things. So you may have a higher BMI which doesn't need co-morbities.

Also, are you sure about your weight? I know someone who got denied, but got reweighed and was heavier. Now don’t forget before going back you may want to empty your pockets. It would be a shame to forget about those mini weights in your pockets.

And are you sure about those co-morbities. I hope you’re not too tired from not sleeping well – heck that could a sign of sleep apena. And haven’t you tired getting pregnant but can’t? What about that depression and/or anxiety? Hope you got that excess sweating under control.

It would be shameful that you overlooked something

Please know, if you try again and are still denied – STOP. Unsure how it is in your state, but in NJ if an insurance company denies you 3 times then you will be banned for life. If you are denied 2 times, there are other options.

Hope this helps, and I am praying for you

Good Luck on your Journey !!

Tom

Being denied happens. Be careful with being "creative" insurance fraud is no laughing matter. But as Tom suggested, check your height again. I was always 5-11, now I am 5-9! My doctor's office measured me! I was sad!
