doing well. my left shoulder is hurting quite a bit. they fixed a hernia also. pain is tolerable.

i have a liquid pain medicine to take. seems to help. i have to get 2 shots a day leonox. hub is to do it in my stomach twice daily. to prevent clots. rite aid drug store gave us 3 boxes of prefilled shots. they use al little needle.

also have a breathing machine to use to prevent pnuemomia.i just inhale using this little plastic item. not sure how long i will have to use it.

mouth is very dry but am trying to sip as much as i can.

had to drink barium and dr watched on xrays to see any leaks. none was seen and that was great news.

ended up losing 18.2 pounds on my liquid diiet so my liver was perfect and small.

will just rest for the next few days. hope my shoulder feels better. that be my only complaint.

thank you all.

Good to hear you are doing well...get plenty of rest, you've just had major surgery!! Remember to sip, sip and sip, get heat pads if you need them, I used liquid Tylenol to help with pain. You will feel rough for the next few days, I felt rough for about 2 weeks, but it gets better.

Funny how fast you forget.  I had forgotten about the shoulder pain right after surgery...but it DID hurt now that you mention it!  I'm so glad you're doing well.  Just rest and walk as much as you can within reason.  And welcome to the club.

The shoulder pain is typically gas related, get lots of walking in to help move the gas out! if you're constipated, be sure to take something for it as that will also help get the gas out. In the meantime, hot packs or cold packs (whichever feels best for you) can help the shoulder as well.

Right after surgery, I had trouble getting the gas out even though I did a lot of walking. The doctor recommended Gas-X strips...that didn't work AT ALL! I ended up taking a shot of Milk of Magnesia! It did the trick!! RELIEF!! I had my surgery on Thursday and went work on Monday, I was pretty stiff but I felt pretty good...

Welcome to the Loser's Bench in our Winner's Circle!!

CONGRATS!!!

The left shoulder pain is common, and make take a few weeks to pass.

Relax for now, but don't forget to begin to exercise. Now before you curse me out (take a number), I am not asking for you to run a marathon.

Day 1 - get off the chair, walk to the door, open it. -- DONE

Day 2 - get off the chair, walk to the door, open it, go down the driveway  - DONE

Day 3 - get off the chair, walk to the door, open it, go down the driveway, go a 1/4 way down the street, come back home, - DONE

And each day increase a 1/4 block.

Of course check with your Doctor, but make sure you do some movement (and yes, I mean that type too ).

And while we're at it .. since you will be on liquids for a few weeks .. remember this WISE WARNING.

What you may think is a GAS may actually come out as a liquid or solid - so be prepared!!

Ok, enough grossing folks out!!

GOOD LUCK!!

Good Luck on your Journey !!

Tom, I love you!   I swear,  this is just the amount of exercise I did in the first two days... It's not as easy as people think---especially when you're HIGH!!

I had the hiatal hernia repair at the same time too. That caused more discomfort then the band. You will have to use the breathing machine until you can walk a lot. I walked every half hour around the house as I stayed in my pjs cuz no bra felt better due to that extra incision between your breasts.

You will be feeling better soon!
