Throwing up after lap band surgery

"Also lap banders can no longer vomit from the lower stomach and it is not gross nasty vomiting with acid like pre op. Bansters barf is called Productive Burping, because all food goes in the upper pouch initially and if you get food stuck it comes right back up undigested and not real vomiting."

This is soooo incorrect.  I caught a stomach virus last September and I did indeed vomit from the bottom of my stomach for about 18 hours.  I barfed up bile and all kinds of sh*t and my PA told me that stuff comes from below the pylorus...

I was so scared that the illness had caused damage and relieved it had not, as was shown when i went in for a ugi.  The only consequence of the whole thing is that my gall bladder got fired up and I had to have it removed a month later.

@sugegee, Your situation is very perplexing to me. You've been banded for 3 weeks and 3 days and you have 6 cc in your band? There is not a decent surgeon on the planet that would have given you a fill already. I get there may be some residual saline in your band, when it was placed, but certainly NOT 6cc. As a comparison, after my last fill a few weeks ago, I'm only at a total of 5cc.So in order for me (and others) to really understand your situation, could you tell me if you've had a fill? When? What are you eating?

By the Way--congrats on your 70 lbs weight loss!!

And please understand that I am not being judgmental, but your situation is concerning.

@Hey C --- Hopefully I am not wrong but it appears that she was banded May 2011 and not May 11...if she was banded only a few weeks ago...yes her surgeon license should be revoked...lol...

@suegee, If I feel full, which for me feels like I have food backed up to the bottom of my throat, I find walking helps to move things through a bit faster. I've learned in the past few months and haven't had that issue (thankfully).

I've seen some post on here they walk with their arms up as well. I asked the nurse if I should drink water and she said no, that can make it worse and lead to vomitting. I have seen some here comment sipping a warm tea or drink helps.

Best of luck.

Let me start by saying that I have lost over 70  lbs with this whole process.  I mentioned that I am not bullimic nor was I previous to the surgery.   If you are that disciplined that you never overeat to the point you feel miserable, kudos to you......not every person is perfect and can be that disciplined.  I am not worried at all about band slippage because it isn't that often nor do I feel that I am going to be a complication stat.  Let me also state I sure in heck wouldn't have gone through all of this for the mere experience of being able to throw up easier to lose weight.  Some people can be so judgemental.  If you didn't have an answer for the question I was asking, I really didn't need your response.  And yes, after losing the amount of weight I have and continue to lose, I do believe I have realized how your eating habits must change and I know all about the "tiny" hole my food has to go through.  Thanks so much for the warning................NOT.......you completely took what I was asking and twisted it.  As for the band and vomiting not mixing, maybe you should check the statistics of people with the lap band.  Many throw up on a regular basis with the band.  Is it healthy?  No, but then again it is something they have to learn to live with because of the band.  The band can actually cause vomiting for people that have it.  I read about it constantly.  I have 6 cc in my band and have done great.  I was simply asking IF or WHEN I do have those times I eat too much to the point I feel miserable, what can I do.  I have found that I can be eating and be fine and all of a sudden it feels like a rock just dropped into my stomach.  Does that mean I'm not following the diet?  No, it is just the way my body reacts and after over a year post op I am trying to learn before hand how much to eat before that happens.  Some people purposely eat too much so they can throw up, that is not the case.  You also might want to consider some compassion towards people who are bullimic or anorexic because it is a disease.  You seemed quick to add me into that category.  My heart aches for them and what they are doing to their bodies.  I certainly don't judge them.................
Let me ask you this . were you TOLD vomitting would be a part of yoru every day life when you got the band ? Am I bulemic now ? If someone who throws up on a near daily baisis because of what tehy eat due to a band is bulemic then i guess so . But the BAND caused that nothing else I certainly was not before hand.

I am here to tell you that never changes, that " one too much feeling" comes up all of a sudden then you throw up .. that throwing up or Productive bupring " people like to call it WILL SLIP a band !
I understand your asking for help when this happens .. What can you posisbly do ? Some people use pineapple juice or papaya enymes they never worked for me though .
you might try that. I just ask this .  you do not be so naive that think that band slipps are not the norm and that throwing up is suppose to happen with the band, NEITHER is true !

I guess I missed some of your post and I am actually alarmed by your comments:

You mentioned:

I am not worried at all about band slippage because it isn't that often nor do I feel that I am going to be a complication stat.

Well...if you are not worried about band slippage due to frequent vomiting you are more naive than I thought. DO you know the lap band has about a 40 percent complication rate? And of that 40 percent 30 percent are from lap band slippage DUE TO FREQUENT VOMITING..IT'S REAL AND HAPPENS TO A WHOLE LOT OF PEOPLE....My own lap band almost slipped 5 years ago when I was accidentally filled too tight and drove to Florida on vacation and my vacation was a nightmare because I spent most of the time slimming, with reflux and frothing at the mouth...when I finally got home to see my surgeon a week later, my pouch was dilated and about to slip...my band was saved because I got immediate help...also I had another incident where I experienced nightly reflux and my band almost slipped again...it was saved again by immediately getting saline removed....and trust me I am very careful with my band and don't abuse it....SO if you think you are immune to band slips ...let's see how well you do in about 1-2 more years of as you say...of vomiting to get rid of food being stuck frequently.

You also mentioned

Hmm..everyone that I've known over the years that PB'd several times a day/week no longer have a band....so I guess your friends are early out and NOT over 5 years post op.

Lap Band on 07/15/15

When I first start eating my food gets stuck. I get that big bunch of mucus and then after that all comes out it's like I have air that comes up from my stomach through the band and out. I keep gagging and finally stop. I can't eat bread at all. I had lost 50 lbs but have gained 25 back over the 2 years. I hate going out to eat. If I do I make sure I know where the bathroom is.
