When does the hair loss stop?

My hair loss started right at the 3 month mark (almost exactly). I have biotin in my daily B supplement and added an additional Biotin supplement. Sometimes I think its slowing down and then one look in the drain and I see it isn't.  Keeping my protein up...any other suggestions?  How long does this last?  I'm grateful that I had a full head of hair to begin start!

It can happen from month 2-11 but it is most common between 4-6 months.  People will tell you to take Biotin, increase protein, etc.  None of it matters.  If it is going to happen it is going to happen.

Consider this, the hair you are losing today actually died 2 months ago.  The new hair growth is pushing the old hair out.  So your hair IS growing back.

But I remember how scary it was.  I lost about 50% of my hair with my band and that is when I was losing weight.   I didn't lose any with my sleeve but I wasn't losing weight then, well... not massive amounts.  I was trying to gain.

It will stop, just try not to be too upset, you aren't going to be bald although you'll have days where you wonder if you will.

Yep I agree, the biotin et... doesn't work. I started loosing significant hair about 4 months out. Went to the dermatologist, he assured me I wouldn't go bald. He said it's from rapid weight loss, your body goes into kind of a shock. It stopped about 7 months post-op. So it went on about 3 months. I too was lucky to start out with a think head of hair. Try not to worry, it will stop and your hair will grow back.

Glad you asked the question! I have the same concerns. I feel like I am losing 3-4 times the amount I normally do. I know they say it appears to be more when your hair is long and mine is past my shoulders. I actually started taking 2 biotin a day to see if it helps with the regrowth!

My nails look great though!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you and me!

I've also heard that the hair loss can be a bounce back effect from the anesthesia.

Hopefully, it will be over soon.

Thanks all.  At our office support group, the leader said, yes your hair is going to fall out - a lot. Don't bring in a baggie of all your hair loss, we get it. So I was prepared and I'm not worried I will go bald. I'm just trying to pace myself to see this to the end. Maybe it will grow back a new color!  Or curly!
ha!

I have been having the same problem many of you have, the hair loss accept mine was falling out for years before my surgery and it majorly picked up after surgery.  I am currently taking the botin tablet but I also asked my general MD.  She ran a vit. D panel and found that I was seriously lacking in the viamin, wich can make the hair fall out.  I'm on a weekly vit. D tablet and I've been told to get fifteen min of sun daily without sunscreen and to continue to take a strong vitamin d tablet after I finish the once weekly pills.

The cuase of the hair loss for many is due to the "stress" we have put our boides thru with the pre op diet, surgery and new eating habbits afterward.  Eventually though the hairloss will stop.
