I am freaked because I have to be infilled

3 years out and down 65 pounds and maintaining.  We moved and I found a new Dr.  He said before filling I should have an endoscope.  the results were bad.  Esophagus was very inflamed and swollen, probably from GIRD.  He wants tu unfill and leave me this way for awhile and let the esoph heal with the help of prilosec.

Has anyone else ever been through this and how did you manage not to gain weight or did you gain?  How long were you unfilled?  I am beyond devastated and very afraid of what is going to happen.  Torturing myself.

It is essential that you have the unfill. Do let things calm down in there. That may be all that is needed. If not, well just take it one day at a time. Try not to project..

I just finished posting to someone else that I had a total unfill 6 weeks ago and have not gained weight but haven't lost either. I put some on over the winter and need to drop around 14# so I am not thrilled about being unable to lose but I am still glad I went along with the surgeons recommendation. I go back to see him June 20 and we will take it from there. I honestly don't know what will happen with me since I have been extremely sensitive to fills and getting stuck frequently since surgery. Much of it has been me forgetting good eating habits and has been on really solid food. Not all of it has been that, though.

I was very upset at first but I know that if things are left status quo it is a set up for complications of more permanent nature so I decided to leave freaking out alone. Sometimes it works better than others. Again, one day at a time is the key.

Keep us posted, please.

Thanks Sue, you don't know how much your kind words have helped.  I'm so glad to hear that you were able to maintain as that is what I want to do as well.  the band has taught me to eat small portions and I hope I can continue to do it.

I hope all goes well. i will say a prayer that the unfill will help resolve your issues and  that all you have learned over the last three years will help you maintain.

Unfortunately this happens all the time with bands. Some don't regain, most do. :-(

Just wondeirng......how long have you been having GERD???

Prolonged amounts of time of acid can cause cancer in the esophagus. Don't let the reflux go on much longer.  Unfortunately the band causes lots and lots of reflux. That's why I got mine taken out. I couldn't handle the acid reflux and I didn't want cancer of the esophagus. Luckily my EDG showed that 7.5 yrs of acid had no effect on my esophagus. I cried when she told me. I was certain it had. I did gain weight when my band was unfilled... I gained a lot. I tried WW... then had a revision.

Are you referring to an Unfill, endoscopy, and GERD?  YES!  By all means, do it!!!!!!!!!  You will lose your regain when you are filled again.  Do not suffer needlessly.

I haven't been through it but my thoughts are with you.   Remember, your band never really stopped you from eating...so the weight you've lost...YOU'VE lost.  Just because you won't have your little helper doesn't mean you will regain.  I'm sending strong thoughts your way.

Thanks to all of you who posted.  I had forgotten how supportive this web site can be.  I have started journaling again to help control my intake.  Band gets unfilled on monday.  I will keep postng about my progress.

The next hurdle is to find a band doctor in Seattle that will accept me as a patient as we are spending 4 months there over the summer.  I can't believe how hard it is to find doctors who will deal with someone else's band.
