No insurance for fills

I no longer have insurance to cover fills. My doc charges $139 for one single fill. That's a little painful considering that I am empty (just had a baby) and will probably have to go at least 2-3 times.

Does anyone know of any alternatives? I'm in Georgia.

Don't some docs offer a fill package?

I don't know about Packages, but my doctor uses a fluoroscope, while my Mother in-laws doesn’t.  It took her 3 time the number of visits to get to her ideal fill then myself.  I would suggest you make sure you’re using a Doctor who uses a fluoroscope, so you get your monies worth.

Jeff I've never had mine done under fluro, but I've gotta say, I know tons of bandsters that got it done that way and still didn't get restriction. That's why I never bothered to get it done under fluro myself. The band is really just a crap shoot. Some get restriction..........others never do. :-( Glad that wasn't the case for you though.

Sorry for butting in but I can hardly believe what I just read.  Maria, how can you ever know for certain what  amount of saline is in your band if you never had a fluro? You might've never reached restriction because there was maybe not enough saline. Yeah, your doc told you what he put in, but without a picture of your pouch, how do you really know if there is anything in it?.  With all your troubles with the band, there coulda been a leak all this time. Just wondering here.  I am NOT blaming you at all...just blaming your doc for never looking at in under fluro.  He sure enough took your money for all those fills.  :(.   When I ever felt too tight or not tight enough, that's the first thing my doc does because it's so much better than guessing at the right amount to add.

My surgeon never used flouro.  He would pull out what was in the band, measure and add or take out what we had discussed. He kept meticulous records.  I don't think a flouroscope is necessary to get a proper fill.  I have a close friend that always got her fills done with the flouro, but she ended up with the same issues I did.

I realize that, Melly, but for all of the frustration Maria had endured, floro seems pertinent. You were lucky perhaps...but then again, you just revised so who is to say that a view of the pouch wouldn't have helped you along the way?    I'm not trying to be snarky!  I just believe that when people have problems with the band, a doctor should use all the tools he has to help.  I see my pouch every visit with my doc...I can see if the barium flows too fast or too slow ..and the doc can see exactly how wide the stoma is.  Even with meticulous records, paperwork won't show what the fluroscopy can.

I have never had a full under fluroscopy (if there are band problems, my doc will do one).

I don't know how much fluid is in my band, except that for today, it is enough without being too much.

I am self pay -- and it keeps my cost down to not have the fluro ---

I agree that with Maria's history, that a fluoroscopy should have been ordered years ago to help diagnose the reason that she cannot seem to get her band to a level that worksfor her without being too tight.

My natural inclination would be to 'take a look' ---- I would want to see for myself (I am nosy that way!)

Ditto!

I wouldn't want to put myself thru that much radiation.  Flouro was only used if there where issues to warrent it.  Also the price of doing Floro is about $300 MORE per fill.  Not what a self pay wants to hear.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

It's extremely easy to verify the amount. All you do is withdrawl the mount in.

The point you don't seem to get is that most of the time there was not enough restricion. Sometimes there was too much. Thus the 4 partial unfills. There has been NO happy medium, and that is something very common with a LOT of bandsters.

Had I read that those not reaching restricion were able to finally obtain it but getting fills under fluro I would have done it, but that's not the case. No reason to throw more money away.

As far as the Dr., I have no problem whatsoever with my 2nd Dr. He gave me a very good price on fills and I honestly believe if there was anything he could have done, he would have.

I have learned in my time that what works for on person dos't apply to another, so I was not saying that every perons docotors should have to have to use a flurocope.  However, it has been my personal expecance that using a flurocope is extramly helpfulf for both required fills and setting the right level.

One time I went to my docotor clinic that was closer to my work.  It turned out that at that clinic he didn't use a flurocope.  I had the fill anyway, and I was so over filled, I lost 20 lbs in 3 day.  I had to get in to see him under an emergery defill.

I will never have a fill without using a flurocope again.
