I would suggest reading this if you are actually considering the band:

Thank you eveyone for your thoughts.  I have my pre-surgery office visit this morning.  I will speak to my doc.  I can't help but wonder if I should do any surgery and just try one more time to lose weight on my own!

I have lost all my weight with the lapband; but, I also lost more weight on weigh****chers than the lapband.  If I had to do it over again I would just go to WW.

As mentioned here by many, no one can say which operation will be best FOR YOU. All these operations have success and failures, those who love them and those who hate them.

For me I love my band, but as you can tell from other posts other's don't. All I know is no matter what operation you decide to have, I will be here to help you in any way I can.

GOOD LUCK!!
Good Luck on your Journey !!

It seems it's very subjective. I had the Lap Band 3 years ago, initially did well, lost 100 pounds, but over the past year have regained more than half of it. Life stressors and I began eating candy. If I had it to do over again I would do RNY. I needed to lose almost 200 pounds, and so even after losing 100, I was no where near my goal weight. I'm considering asking for RNY now.
Best wishes to you whatever you decide.

I do not recommend the band, having had the band myself, compilcations are very common in banded people.  I had the band-induced bulimia.   I revised to bypass and very happy with the decision I wish I had done the bypass in the first place.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

I wouldn't recommend the band or RnY.
The lapband has a high failure rate and is very damaging.

I'd look into the VSG or DS, personally.

If you are confused or worried then maybe you should consider postponing it until you feel better about your choice.  No matter what anyone says, once you have any WLS, none of them are reversible.  I know I was told when I got the band that it was easily reversible.  NO, it is not.  I have esophageal damage, damage to my teeth (from consistent vomiting), I have had to have over half of my stomach removed due to necrosis and gangrene setting in within 3 days of my band slipping.

I currently have a just slightly larger version of the sleeve, not by choice, however, by necessity when they had to remove the band and half of my stomach from damage caused by the band.  So far, it is sooo much better than the band ever was.

However, like I said earlier... NO WLS is reversible.  You need to make sure what you really want before you go ahead with any of them.  Either one is actually a tool.  They assist you to learn to eat right.  You can eat around either surgery.  If it is a magic cure you are looking for, neither one is going to do that.  If you are not sure what you want, my best advise it to be completely sure so that you can not have any regret after the fact.

Good luck with your decision.  I will say a prayer for you that you have some clarity with whatever decision you make.

I had the RNY about 9 years ago, and I was not successful.  I started out at 350 with a goal of being 199 (personal goal, surgen said ideal weight for me was 165) A month post op, scar tissue developed and the opening to my new stomach closed on its own and had to have emergancy surgery to re-open.  On May 23rd 2011 I had a band put over the bypass and so far I have lost alittle over 40 lbs. (more than I acheived in the years with just the RNY)  Now do not take my story the wrong way, there have been MANY people who had no problems or nothing close to the ones I had. I am not trying to sway you in ANY WAY.  I just feel the more info given out there the better any one is.  You need to talk to your Dr. voice your fears and concerns, read as much about all your options and fig out whats best for YOU.

Don't be scared to ask a million questions.... this is your life and your body and only you can make the decision.  Just know there is plenty of support out there and I'm sure you will make the right choice.  Good luck!!
