Anesthesia Question for Surgery
VSG on 03/25/16
I would bet No. I don't know any doctors that would do laparscopic surgery while you are awake. I worked for a hospital OR for 8 years. All tho I am not a anesthesiologist I would bet that would require an epidural to be placed pretty high in your back and would interfere with you heart. Just my opinon(I am not a doctor)
Lapband - Jan 2009 weight goal reached with lapband. Revised to VSG- 1/25/16
A local is terrific when you're getting stitches done, but a local isn't going to work when a surgeon is cutting through skin, muscle and your abdominal wall. You're gonna feel that.
You may want to ask abouit TWILIGHT sedation, which is used when you have a colonoscopy, but you're really going to need general anesthesia, and with good reason. If *I* found a doc who would do band surgery with a LOCAL, I would run far, far away and as quickly as possible.

Can a person get lapband or the realize band with local anesthesia opposed to general and be awake during the procedure? No, it would be impossible. The CO2 pushing on your diaphragm would be excrutiating and they couldn't give you a spinal to fix that.
I have had all my plastic surgery with epidurals, but I know the Lapbabd is not the same. I had my facelift and 2 other surgeries with twilight sleep and epidural. Recovery was a breeze! Virtually painted procedure.
