Hi All,

I've had a falling out my lap band surgeon of 7 years. He told me I was a lost cause and that I would "probably die on the table" duing my knee replacement surgery the next day, as well as telling me my new knee would only last 5 years, which is completely untrue. And I also didn't even come close to dying.

I think it's time for me to try a new doc. I live in Austin TX, but my previous surgeon I just fired is in San Antonio. I'd like someone closer to home and would like a situation that offers support groups, nutrition couseling, etc.

I fell off the wagon when my old doc removed most of my fill because my espophagus was a bit red, even though I had no other symtoms. So now it's like I have no band and I have gained back 100 lbs. I think I just need a new situation to make this work. He was so negative, yelled at me and is awful to his staff. No one there is ever the same when I come in as they keep quitting.

Can anyone recommend a good lap band surgeon or group of surgeons in Austin?

Maybe this will help you with your quest:

I would strongly suggest speaking to various Nutritionists to see who they recommend

Good Luck on your Journey !!

I had to fire my surgeon and find a new one as well, it wasn't easy. I was finally accepted by a surgeon from here: http://www.southwestbariatric.com/surgeons.asp
My surgeon isn't there anymore though (she recently rejoined the military). I was initially told no, but I faxed in a letter to them describing the issues I had with my previous surgeon and they did finally accept me.

Banded 03/22/06  276/261/184 (highest/surgery/lowest)

Sleeved 07/11/2013  228/165 (surgery/current) (111lbs lost)

Hi K, old friend! I'm sorry to hear that you're having a tough time. You know my whole banding saga... getting it removed was the best thing I ever did.

Is a revision a possibility for you? There has to be a better way... and I'm sure there have got to be good surgeons in your area. I hope you can find one and feel better, no matter which way you go!  (It's good to see you! I've missed you!)

I am hoping that due to the fact that my surgeon is out of town, I can find a local doctor without too much trouble. I remembered that when I ver first considered the lap band, I had an initial visit with a doctor in Austin that has a good reputation for a great beside manner. I am going to try and get in with him.

Yes, Nicci, a revision is certainly something I'm considering. My old surgeon only does lap bands and he said I would fail at anything, so I am really upset with him. I know someone (Carnie Wilson?) who had a RNY just got a lapband so it goes both ways. I am hoping that if I can get a fill back in my band, instead of being told "that's not how it works" to have it tight, that I will lose again. I did just fine with 3.0 ccs, but now I only have 2.0. I had absolutely no symptoms of farkling, reflux or any of the other warning signs. Just a red esophagus. Nexium cleared it up. I just don't understand why he's being such an ass to me. I seriously think he just hates fat people.

I haven't been on Sean's site because I'm a failure and I can't take the abuse that I know would be dished out from certain RNYers who would say, "I told you so." I got really tired of the trolls over there.
