Information & Support
I first came to this board back in 2006 when I was considering the lap band. ALL I heard then was how good the lap band was, how it was a tool that would change my life, how it was the only surgery that was irreversible and how easy it is to take out if you decide you don't need it anymore or don't want it anymore.
I heard that while there are complications with every surgery, the risks were SO LOW with the lap band that it was a risk worth taking.
I am NOT here to tell anyone to get the lapband, or not to get the lapband.
I am here to let people know there are SEVERE risks involved if you decide to get the lapband. When I came back here after my lap band failed me, YES... I said the lapband failed ME... I did NOT fail the band, I found some wonderful people that have been very supportive of me and let me know that I am not alone. There are other people on here that told me that I must have been doing something wrong.
As you read some of the posts, (I will not mention names, however, you can figure it out), there are some people that tell you that if you do not have success with the lapband, then you are misusing the tool that you were given. WRONG!!!!
The lapband is NOT for everyone. There are some of us that did follow ALL the rules of the lapband and it still cause permanent damage. YES.. I said it DID cause PERMANENT damage. Sorry for the Caps, but I want people to realize that it can be very life altering in a way that I did NOT know about.
This board is supposed to be for information and support for whatever the reader decides to do. If they have all the information, Good and Bad, and they still decide to get the lap band, then I wish them all the luck in the world. However, to discredit someone for trying to warn of the complications they had with the band and to tell the new people not to listen to them is WRONG!
If you want to post the same things that Allergan post, then just tell the people where to find what Allergan posts. That way they can look at the date it was posted, and not have outdated facts. AND... be sure to let them know that Allergan is the maker of the band, therefore, of course they are going to make everything look better than it actually is.
Sorry this is so long, however, really irritates me that people come here looking for answers, whether it is what you agree with or not, let that person make up there own mind. If they want further answers from you, I am sure they will ask...
Good Luck to ALL the people out there looking for WLS, or looking for revisions to get their bands out... I did have mine out with emergency surgery after it almost killed me...
Nobody should fully understand this statement because it is completely false and unsubstantiated by actual data. Based on this kind of ludicrous posting of unsubstantiated crap I would urge others on this forum to question everything they read from Naomi. Remember how important the "Center of Excellence" was until I showed actual data that it wasn't. Just because Naomi (or anyone else here) thinks something is true does not make it true. Look to the actual data, just like the FDA is currently doing.

LMAO! So true! :-)
Just for FYI, I didn't hit the 'mommy' button either. I did not start this to cause an argument, I started this to try to explain to people that we all have our own stories. I am NOT telling anyone not to do something they want to do. I just want to let people know MY story. As for you telling me that I am lying, NO I am NOT!!!
Am I bashing the band? No, I am informing people that there are some risks involved, even when you follow all the rules.
The band has worked for some people, I have NEVER discredited that.
Dev put it one way.... Maybe it is not the band, however, ones body on how it reacts to the band. My body did not like the band, as with several others.
I think it is up to whomever is going to have whatever surgery they want to have what they are willing to risk. As I said, I now have a sleeve, NOT by choice, however because they had to cut out the dead portion of my stomach to save my life. So far, I am much happier with it than I was with the band, but who says what kinds of complications I may have down the road. I don't know yet.
I think EVERYONE should be able to tell their own story and let it be up to the reader what they want to know more about. Do NOT bash me because I did not have success. I am glad that you have had success, I have never bashed you for being successful, I have just asked that you do not try to discredit or blame me for what has happened to me...

"Successful" is a matter of perspective actually. To her she's successful. To me...........having 70-80 fills and re-gaining 40 pounds is NOT successful! But that's just me...................

Refrain from breaking OH TOS and your posts won't be removed.
NOT SURE IF/WHEN IT CAN HAPPEN, BUT CAN WE TRY TO AGREE:
BANDS DO FAIL: AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PATIENT. IT’S A MECHANICAL DEVICE, AND DOCTORS (AND THE MANUFACTURES) WILL TELL YOU THIS IS A POSSIBILITY
BANDS DO FAIL: AND THE PATIENT NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HEED THE WARNING SIGNS, AND REFUSED TO GO TO THE DOCTOR UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE
BANDS DO FAIL: AND IT’S BECAUSE THE DOCTOR REFUSED TO LISTEN TO THE PATIENT WHO DID HEEDED THE WARNING SIGN THEIR BAND WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND/OR SOMETHING WAS WRONG
BAND FAILURE: OCCURS WHEN THE DEVICE IS WORKING PROPERLY, THE DOCTOR IS GIVING SOUND ADVICE, BUT THE PATIENT REFUSES TO OBEY WHAT IS EXPECTED BY THEM.
NOTE: YOU CAN REPLACE THE WORD BAND WITH ANY OTHER OPERATION TYPE, AND IT ALL POINTS WILL PERTAIN (EXCEPT SOME OPERATIONS DON’T INCLUDE A DEVICE, but the concept is the same)
