Surgery rescheduled...

I am bummed I have to wait another month... but it was a choice I had to make. The hospital where I am having my surgery advised I would owe my co-insurance upfront since my hiatal hernia repair with band repositioning was considered "cosmetic". Pffft. So they wouldn't let me make payments or get billed. "Normally we do, but your surgery is cosmetic..." Bullhockey!!

Anyway... my FSA funds reset July 1st... and Melissa, the AMAZING wonderful and oh so patient insurance coordinator at my surgeons office (she ROCKS... I owe her a HUGE thank you card), was able to re-schedule my date to July 9th... WITHOUT having to resubmit all my paperwork!!!

YAY! Very happy! We were hoping they were not going to say we had to resubmit for authorization! I just had this feeling that insurance would not approve the surgery again (fluke they did the first time!)... and Melissa agreed... would be risky to have to resubmit.

So I have another month to continue to make myself as healthy as I can for this operation. I have lost 15 pounds now since I recommitted myself 2 months ago. I am VERY happy with my results. My heartburn is still daily... but I am doing everything I can to minimalize it.

Sorry to hear about your having to reschedule, but very proud of you for recharging yourself and losing weight!

I would ask your surgeon to fight the "cosmetic" thing!

Thanks! The cosmetic thing was the hospital... Not my surgeon. ;)

My surgeon fixed my hiatal hernia repair with the intial band placement. He did tell me going in if the hernia was too large he would not be able to place the band. That was nerve wracking. The first thing I asked when I woke up...Do I have a Lapband?
Since when is hernia repair cosmetic??? Insurance companies get by with way too much.
We will be thinking about you on your new date. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Good luck with your surgery...if you are not taking Protonix it works wonders for lap banders reflux/heartburn....it's stronger than most.

Naomi-

No, Protonix is not stronger.  It is merely another drug in the same class.  A PPI.

Don't ever be disappointed in postponements. I truly believe this is God's (the god's) way of making sure you have the operation WHEN YOU'RE SUPPOSE TO.

Plus this gives us extra time to pray; shake chickens; make offering for positive results!!

Keep us posted, and know we're here for you!!!

Good Luck on your Journey !!

Tom
