Almost 5 yrs out and have a question

I have not been to OH much  but I will come back every once in a while to ask a question about an issue I might be having. My band is adjusted to best place it has been in all the 4 yrs   But I am having one issue lately. At night I will go to bed and sometime during the night I will get up and have to go to the bathroom to spit out stuff that looks like slime( so sorry to be so graphic). It might happen one time that night or several times. Sometimes I will have coughing with it where it seems something is tickling my throat. Sometimes I will need to use my inhaler for my asthma because of rattling in chest.if this was every night I would think my band might be too tight and needs adjusting even though I am doing great at what I eat and how much. My liquid intake could be better I will admit but not from being able to drink but because I forget I need to drink more.
Any suggestions on what I should try doing to keep this from happening at night?

Hi Phyllis
Do you have any problems with allergies? I had a bout with allergies last year and it caused a lot of mucus to back up and my band tightened up. I had to have a complete un fill (my choice) you should talk to your doctor and see if a small un fill will help

Lapband - Jan 2009 weight goal reached with lapband. Revised to VSG- 1/25/16

It sounds like GERD. Maybe your stomach isn't emptying completely before you go to bed. It will cause mucus to build up. Are you eating too close to bedtime, maybe?

You probably want to talk to your doctor about the possibility of reflux. Medication can help quite a bit.

Thanks.. I think it is the GERD. I think I do eat to close to bed time and am not drinking enough to rinse it all out of band. Think I will try to be more aware of doing that and see what happens.

You could try OTC Prilosec and not eating or drinking anything for 4 hours prior to bedtime. I also suggest an Upper GI to check your band placement! You are exhibiting symptoms of problems that happen with the Lapband after 3 to 4 years out.

Thank you. I had a upper GI about a yr or so ago and all was fine. I will get some of the Prilosec and try the empty stomach to see what happens. It's not every night so kinda thi k it might be me needing to adjust and not a band problem

Great! I have never had an upper GI. But my new doctor is sending me for one next week to check band placement. My band doctor retired. I have had to find a new one. Good luck with the Prilosec! I has bad reflux before my band was placed.

I wasn't having any big issues but seemed like a lot of fills then I unfills to the point dr wanted to rule out band problems. It is good your new dr is doing all this to make sure all is good with your band.

Oh good! I appreciate my doctor wanting to verify things since I have had my Lapband so long. I have never had an infill or any problem at all. Picture perfect Lapband journey! My original surgeon was very skilled as my BMI was much higher than 65.

You have done awesome! I think having a great surgeon to do the surgery is important but must also be a great follow up dr to monitor our journey issues. It makes me wonder when I read some of the post why so many went as long as 2 yrs without drs not doing something. Did they not go to the dr or did the dr ignore the sign?
