See, what I don't understand is this: the lapband has failed in MOST people, but for some reason, everyone going into lapband surgery thinks it won't happen to them. But it DOES.Failure isn't just an option, it's almost a given. That's not "negativity"... that's just reality.
We ALL went into this thinking that we'd make it work. Speaking for myself, I came out damaged beyond imagination. I only wish that someone had given me a warning before making such a painful mistake. But I was desperate for weight loss, so I went charging forward with the lapband. And now, 9 years later, I realize what a huge, terrible mistake it was.
I don't expect to sway your decision because no one would have talked me out of having surgery, either. But you'd be doing yourself a HUGE favor if you rethought your decision.
Good luck to you, no matter what you choose.
Everyone's experience is different. For me restriction has never meant weird gurgles and noises and I notice only a fairly minor difference between my restriction in the morning and in the evening. I hope you have smooth sailing!

i agree my insurance would only approve the lap band and like you, i will make the best of it. i am new to this forum and have read alot of neg and like you, i am sorry so many have been dissatisfied but i have to do it this way.
Good luck with your surgery. I hope everything goes perfectly for you.
Having said that though I have to tell you that I agree with the advice that Hislady gave you. It's not as simple as "don't keep your band too tight". What many of us found out is that good restriction in the morning ends up being no restriction after lunch, and good restriction after lunch ends up being too tight for anything other than liquids till about 11AM. Good restriction one day ends up being too tight and vomiting the day before your period and all the days of your period. And good restriction can turn into too tight months and years after your last fill, then no restriction after you get a partial unfill that turns into too tight a few months later. In many people it's very hard to control. And good restriction is not quiet. It gurgles and makes bizarre noises after you eat. If you ever have to do the working lunch thing it can be pretty embarrassing. This is the stuff that happens normally. Pain, reflux, slipping and erosion are a whole different level that is not uncommon.
I wish you health and happiness whatever you choose. If this is still your choice look to people like BetteB and KateP and others who have reached their goal and maintained it for a while for support and guidance. Good luck!

Congratulations!!! Im going to get the band done on June 4th. I am also very excited about it. Dont let the bashers or nay-sayers get you down. I know in my heart this is the answer for me, I refuse to do anything that will surgically re-route my body. I just dont think that is an answer for me at all. I believe in the lapband as a tool and look forward to using this tool to help me reach my goals. Maybe we can be some support to each other as we seem to be starting quite near the same time as each other.

Congrats! it sounds like you're well informed and being part of a study is a great way to get some extra attention and support from your medical team!

Desperate people do desperate things. I was one desperate person too!
Had I known then what I know now, I would have made a different decision.
Now 5 years later I am one very, very happy sleever.
Since your he-- bent on getting the band or if you do better research and change surgery types I wish you all the best in your WLS.

LP,
I am so happy for you! If you are like me and have been struggling with your weight most of your life and you know what you have to do you will have success!
As a lifetime dieter losing and gaining the same 100 pounds over and over and over again I know I made the right choice.
I knew what to do each time just had nothing to help me control the hunger now I do!
I wish you the best luck and speedy weight loss.

Congratulations!! I orginaly wanted to have RNY but because of medical reasons my surgeon would only preform lapband. It has been very slow weight loss, but I do believe without it I would probably have gained.
I think you have studied the pros & cons and are going into it well informed. Hopefully your body will adjust to the band.
Good luck and keep us posted.
