APPROVED!
Hi Guys it has been over a year since I have had any luck getting approved for weight loss surgery, but when one door closes another one opens. I got great news yesterday. I have been approved for the Lapband surgery! I am so thrilled and was just glowing from happiness all day! I have to meet with my surgeon in a few days to discuss a date, but I know it will be before June 15th. SOOOOO EXCITED!!!! I cannot wait to start my new life and be a member of the losers bench : )
Myself and my husband both had lap-band surgery Oct 4th 2011 at the same time.
We are both doing well, I have lost 64 pounds and he has lost 92 pounds so far.
Has it taken alot of work? Yes.
We both joined Weigh****chers the end of November 2011 and we both exercise at least 5 times a week.
We have friends and family who have had lap-band and gastric bypass surgery.
And they all say that no matter type of WLS you have it takes commitment and work.
WLS is not a quick fix, it is a tool to help with weight loss.
I did alot of research before making the decision to have WLS and I have also heard horror stories about both lap-band and gastric bypass, the reason we opted for lap-band was because if something went wrong it could be reversed.
So, it does take alot of work and patience, we are still in the process of seeing our surgeon every six weeks for fills and follow ups until we reach that "green zone".
All I can say is WLS is not a cure for obesity, it is a tool.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery! Never mind the band bashers....make sure you research the band fully to know how it works.
The band saved my life and many others and I still my orginal band and I just got back from lunch at work and ate about 2 ounces of garlic crusted talipia with mixed chinese veggies and a small fruit cup from a buffet downtown...life is grand and totally normal at 6 years post ....
Here is a guide to help you understand how the lap band works and post op healing instructions http://www.laplose.com/Media/Forms/LapBandDietGuideNew.pdf
Good luck!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. I suggest you study all of the information provided to you and find more. This is an arduous journey at best. Arm yourself for the battle. Never allow yourself to think that the band is anything other than an aide to help you lose weight. It will not do the work for you, you will have to work hard at losing and you will have to adhere to your doctors orders or risk undue complications. Even then you are not guaranteed an uneventlful weight loss. I am not trying to scare you I am trying to be straightforward. We banders often get blamed for sugarcoating our band trips to newbies and I want to lay it all out there. That being said, I have had my band for 4 years and I keep it on the loose side so that I can eat and then I work very hard at losing. Make sure your mind is made up to lose weight and you will be ok with the effort.

Hi. I wish you the best. Like person above me.. this is a very arduous tool.
Even my surgeon says lapband is the hardest WLS tool. Your ticker indicates you have 163 lbs to lose. Lapband isn't the best tool.
My weight loss has completely stalled after SEVEN months, yes you read that right, SEVEN MONTHS of being banded and then i started having complications, including band-induced bulimia. i couldn't eat without throwing up so had to eat not so good food, to keep food down and not throw it up. I did not feel good about this, eating awful processed food instead of wholesome and protein laden food. I gained about 30 lbs back.
I suffered for almost 2 more years before finally revising to bypass and I am very happy. Losing again, eating wholesome and protein rich food again without throwing up. I love it and wish I had done bypass in the first place.
Please go over to the revision board. Alot of banders have revised to either sleeve or bypass.
Anyway, good luck on your decision.

I am sorry that it has not been good for you. I do not have the option to get the sleeve, I was approved for the band. Only way the sleeve would be an option is if I did self pay.
Please read my bio and maybe you will understand how I was approved for the Lapband.
I will make do with what God has blessed me with.
Failure is not an option. I will make this work.
So many are unhappy with the band I understand, but I have to think positive and not let negatvity pull me down from accomplishing my success.
Thanks for your opinion I vaule everyones.
Have a blessed weekend.

See, what I don't understand is this: the lapband has failed in MOST people, but for some reason, everyone going into lapband surgery thinks it won't happen to them. But it DOES.
Failure isn't just an option, it's almost a given. That's not "negativity"... that's just reality.
We ALL went into this thinking that we'd make it work. Speaking for myself, I came out damaged beyond imagination. I only wish that someone had given me a warning before making such a painful mistake. But I was desperate for weight loss, so I went charging forward with the lapband. And now, 9 years later, I realize what a huge, terrible mistake it was.
I don't expect to sway your decision because no one would have talked me out of having surgery, either. But you'd be doing yourself a HUGE favor if you rethought your decision.
Good luck to you, no matter what you choose.
