Adjusting my Brain
I don't understand why I still keep reaching for sizes I used to be. I pick up the smaller size and say, NO WAY, and get a bigger size. I spend more time returning things at the store because I don't like trying things on. I stopped getting the 24s, stopped getting the 22s, stopped getting the 20s, but I can't break out of buying the 18s when a 14/16 fits me beautifully. (This may sound big for some of you, but it's pretty darn small for my 5'9" frame)
Just wanted to share this because I am sure I am not alone.

Hey East, you're not alone... I was an 18, then I picked up 16...and now I'm probably a 14, but I can't wrap my mind around buying the right size. I was in Old Navy last week and picked up a 2x shirt, held it against my body and put it back on the rack. I bought a large T-shirt! I can't remember the last time I fit into a large. Hopefully my mind will catch up to my body, but it sure feels good putting those larger sizes back on the rack.

Congrats on your new surprise size! In my first year when I was losing so much weight, I had NO IDEA that I was a size 14 also...I started in a size 26...I could not wrap my head around losing that much weight in one year. I was losing about 10 pounds per month...and I would still wear my size 18/20 and to my surprise I posted on this forum pics of when I had lost about 80 pounds and told them I was in a size 16-18...but when I went shopping the clothes I put on were all too big....I found out in the dressing room that I was actually a size 14...that was the best feeling....EVER...

I was in automatic mode the other day, and filled my cart with size 12's. Went in and tried them on, after the girl heard me laughing hysterically she asked if I needed help, yeah, everything in my cart needs to go back and I need it all in a size 6.
She didn't quite understand why this was so funny to me, but man, our brains really ARE the last thing to catch up.

You certainly are not alone. Most of us have been through that. My first year or so I kept hanging around in the plus sizes and it seemed like that was where I could find the cutest things, yet I was really a size 8-10. I just didn't get it. I still don't have a clear picture for shopping so I just pick up things, try them on and put back most of it. Between my wall paper paste coloring, my age made more noticible by some colors and styles, and my larger upper abdomen not too many things make the cut. Just enjoy the experience!
