I may be to new to the band world since it has been only almost a year with it, but coming from a failed RNY surgery and the band working more for me that that I am going to say so far so good.  When I had the RNY 9 years ago and the surgen told me since I was young he felt he would make my new stomach alittle larger than normal I thought ok you know what your doing go for it.  I originally wanted the band but he spoke about how with being 350 at 22 I would be more successful going for the RNY.  Two months later, gray skin and not able to get any liquid down, sucking on washcloths to get any type of saliva going, I was rushed to the ER from a scope to have a second RNY done becuase the hole of my fantastic new life had gotten so much scar tissue that it was closed shut.  Fast forward 9 years later, I found a Dr. that said she could help.  Yes she told me all of the risks with the band but because of the already two surgeries and still weighing in the 300's I would have more success. So right now being 31 and 258, eating healthy and taking care of myself in every way I can, I am finally having results.  Is it becuase of the band? Prob can not answer that 100% but I will say that I made the right decision and would do it over in a heartbeat.  I just hope and pray that I continue to more forward and lead a healthy happy life.  I feel for those who have had horrible experiences, becuase I have been there, scaring the death out of my loved ones and not even knowing what could of happened.  So I also pray that we all find peace in whatever decision we have made and just make the best out of any situation handed to us.  I will cont to support anyone who needs it, as I have received from all of you on here as well.

Wow, I deff am having a half full day huh? :) I could of just said yes I guess LOL

Hugs! I know a lot of ppl have re-gain with RNY. Always so sad when that happens!

The BOB's that I know of are all doing well so far. I say so far, b/c just judging from band history, most do NOT do well with bands long term. The government is now even investigating Allergan b/c of their false claims about band performance. That being said, I do hopw you are one of the lucky ones!!!

If I had today's information 3 years ago, I don't know what I would have done.

Probably gone back to WW and continued to struggle with obesity.
There was no way that I would have had RNY, DS or VSG at that time.
They were all too extreme for my personal situation.
I was a relatively healthy, obese 51 year old.

Am I grateflul for my band, yes.
Do I recommend it to others, rarely.

Honestly, I contribute my weight loss success and health gains to a multitude of factors.  The Band is just one of those.
So, I don't feel comfortable suggesting that people get the band, based on what they see in my life.
Yes, I lost alot of weight and have had very few concerns with my band -- but I also use OA and WW to change my eating and behavior.

I hope my band and I are together for a long time -- but I am a realist.
If the band has to go, I hope to use all of the tools at my disposal to control my weight.

A near 50% failure rate might have driven me away but since the band was my only option I might have gone ahead just hoping that I was in the right 50%

I don't know...   I was pretty desperate back then having gained so much weight from prednisone and being laid up for months.  I had no choice other than lap band as my docs said NO to any other surgery due to my illness.  That's a tough decision.

Would I have it today now that I'm down 110 pounds from my highest weight and learning how to eat smaller portions and go low carb?  Probably not, but I can't compare then to now ya know?  it was totally different in 2009.

I would have opted for better genetics...that I know for sure.
I've been on prednisone and chemo for over 7.5 years.  Gained over 160 pounds due to pred. Highest wt. 410. Surgery wt. 365. Current wt. 299
See ya,400s, 90s,80s,70s, 60s, 50s, 40s, 30s, 20s, 10s 300s!!!!

I must have missed that memo :(  Actually, my parents were very slim while I was very young.  But the fat genes do run on both sides.  Now mom is almost 70 and could lose 20 pounds, but dad became very ill in his 40s and packed on pounds over the years.  He's actually losing now, but that's due to his kidneys almost failing.  Sigh...illness never ends in my family LOL.  I can tell you all you want to know about vasculitis and autoimmune diseases though!!!!
