She should find a LOCAL bariatric practice for follow up before she has her surgery.

Some docs won't take patients they did. It operate on, or they charge more.

Some have "program fees" that can be hundreds of dollars or more to transfer in ( they cover the cost of the doc providing support groups and nutritional counseling and things like that ) . My dic does not charge a fee like that, but I know others do.

In the long run, it might not e cheaper to have the surgery on MX if the follow up care turns out to be more expensive here.

I saw my surgeon every 3 weeks for the first few months, then every 4-6 weeks for a while, totaling probably 8 visits in the first year.
Some of those were free follow up, then I started to pay, but because I was self pay for the surgery, my visits are only 50.00 and an additional 50.00 if I get a fill.

We see many people here who have issues and problems and don't achieve their goals partly due to improper follow up. They have insurance changes or financial problems that makes getting follow up difficult (or live far from their surgeon).

Please advise your friend tha the band may not be her best option if she is going to travel for surgery.....it could be the worst choice for her.

There are people who get their surgery in Mexico and then get fills done at a Fills Centers USA location, but I really think this is a terrible idea. The band can be pretty high-maintenence for some people, and having the FLY somewhere to see your doctor is just a recipe for poor follow-up. Sure some people make it work, but for most people it's not going to be realistic to fly to see their doctor as often as one should or when there is an emergency.
Also, as mentioned above, most surgeons are very, very reluctant to take on someone else's patient unless you can deonstrate that you had your surgery one place and then need f/u in another place because you moved in the interim.

Banded 03/22/06  276/261/184 (highest/surgery/lowest)

Sleeved 07/11/2013  228/165 (surgery/current) (111lbs lost)

Did you already have the surgery in Mexico?  Thats where I had mine I'm from California. I go to Mexico for my fills.  The name of the place I go to is Obesity goodbye the Dr is named Sergio Verboonen.  Phone number is (619) 209-7351 or Mex. (664) 685-8723.  They are very nice it is in Tijuana.  I'm not sure how easy it is for you to go there.  The ideal stituation is if you can go often the weight doesnt come off quickly especially if your not getting the fills on a regualr basics.  It is also good to be close in case something is wrong.

Good Luck to you and your friend
