Hello - just checking in to see how many of you still may drink diet soda and how much you drink daily/weekly, etc.  Have you noticed any problems with the band in drinking it?  What does your doctor in particular say?

I haven't touched the stuff since Oct of 2010 and I dont miss it at all.  I was a die hard Pepsi freak and I took a sip of hubby's awhile back because I was thirsty and about gagged it's just way to sweet for me now days .

My doc dont like us drinking it just because it has no nutritional value , empty calories , sugars and so forth.

All I drink now is flavored water, Ice Tea ( one every two weeks or so ) , Zero Powerade during Zumba classes .

My friends that do drink it has no problems drinking it they have been drinking it for a couple yrs now they put it over ice to let the fizz out  .

I just haven't had the desire to drink it or even want it to be honest.

A friend of mine drinks it like water now days and she wonders why she dont lose weight . those calories add up over the day

I drink carbonated drinks occasionally.   Maybe once a month.  But I never really drank sodas prior to surgery, so it wasn't a big deal.

They are on the "don't" list per the nutritionist, but sodas aren't on any nutritionist's list regardless of surgery.

It's strange that you ask that b/c I just had some Coke last night. I had maybe 3 or 4 ounces. I very rarely have carbonation. In 2 1/2 years I've had maybe 25 ounces, so it's very much an occasional thing. I still try to avoid it.

It is a MYTH that it stretch your pouch.   Diet pop will just increase appetite, for some.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

Steelerfan, I am with you. Stopped it and all caffeine prior to surgery. Tastes terrible now! I am a water, Powerade and Propel Zero, and crystal lite girl now.

Stopped the soda's 6 mos prior to lap band 3 1/2 yrs ago.  Don't crave it , stomach feels better and I sleep better at night.  I drank mostly soda and tea prior to surgery and never water so it was an addiction.  I figure I get a cup of soda a yr when I calculate punch around the holidays.  My NUT teaches it will expand the pouch if not allowed to go flat and probably would at the rate I downed it.  I've read posts that say it will cause ulcers over time.  A lot of caffeine supposedly causes increased hunger.  I'm a water addict now so I have no personal knowledge.

I thought giving up Diet Coke would be the hardest part. Turns out it wasn't. I lost my taste for it for a couple of years. In the past couple of years I'll have it if I'm out and have a taste for it or if I need a caffeine boost in the afternoon at work. This comes out to 2-4 cans a month.

I drank a lot of Crystal Light after surgery, but lost the taste for it. I did go through a phase where I drank a can of flavored seltzer every night. I realized even though it doesn't have any calories, the carbonation was making me feel bloated. This would have occurred with or with out the band. Now it's jus****er. I also like Tazo Passion Iced Tea. They have it at Starbuck's, but I usually like it better when I make it at home because I like it really watered down. Again, funny how my tastes have changed! I've also started liking coffee. Unfortunately for my budget, it's only Starbuck's Skinny lattes, but still.

So yeah, that's where I am with my carbonated beverages and beverages in general.

I haven't had any since summer 2007 before I got my band. I've tried a sip now and then but even with my band empty it still causes too much pain to bother drinking it. Plus it's really bad for us and causes sweets cravings. So I don't miss it at all anymore, in fact neve did miss it and I was a 6 pack a day diet Sprite drinker.

Used to drink it a lot before the band, but stopped because soda (carbonated beverages) was on my Surgeons list of no no's. His opinion was more so that it has no nutritional value, artificial everything, caffeine (and with regular soda excess calories) and he and the nutritionist said that calories should come from solid food because that is what works best with the band not liquids...... whether it stretches the band or not I'm not sure.........but if it is on his list (which isn't too long) I don't do it. He is the professional and I don't want to chance losing this band so I just don't do it.

Now when I was unfilled over the holidays I tried some soda hated it and wonder now how I could have ever drank a beer....... I was a big beer drinker but quit that because of the carbonation and being on his list.
