OT - anyone ever had a metatarsal stress fracture?
Totally off topic, but I'm having this weird pain concentrated in one area on the top of my L foot. There's some swelling there, and it gradually gets more swollen and painful throughout the day. It's been doing this for a week or so and it isn't getting any better. I started using the stairs at work over the last few months, since I really never manage to make it to the gym anymore, and I've been doing about 20 floors (up) a day.
I'm wondering if I could have given myself a stress fracture?

I got one after having surgery on the other foot. Evidently putting the extra weight on the other foot caused too much stress. It was horribly painful and my doc gave me pain meds for it, it hurt soooo bad. He did say it's easier to do than we think, so it'd be a good thing to have it checked. I had to stay off it for several days, too. Good luck with it.
I consulted with one of the sports medicine doctors at my hospital and he said, basically, "could be!" He wants me to lay off the stairs for a week and ice it every night (suprisingly hard to find the time to do this). If it gets worse I'll have to have an MRI because he says x-rays don't usually show stress fractures in the early stages.
