Considering Band over Bypass
Hi everyone..
I had my gastric bypass in 1997 and have gone from 380 to 200 and have maintained my weight.
I am thrilled with my results and it has changed my life. The only problem is that I have never reached my goal weight and am still considered obese.
I would love to hear from anyone who has had a band over bypass and how it has worked for you. I am having a seriously hard time deciding if this is the right thing to do and worth the risk.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Melissa

I know that there are a few of those on this board. We had an active poster that was very successful as a BOB, but she quit posting late last year. Not sure what happened. Good luck to you!!I've wondered what happened to her as well. She was such a sweet person. I just assumed that the band worked for her like it worked for a lot of bandsters.............TEMPORARILY! :-(
I assume you are speaking of LisaBee, and if I recall, someone closed to her was killed or something and she backed away from the boards due to personal issues. I've emailed her soinceand she still exists but like all of us post-surgery, we get onwith our lifes. just because we don't post, doesn't mean we failed. It means we are now "eating to live not living to eat".

I'm sorry to hear about that! I hope she returns to the forum when she's feeling better.
I have just seen so many times those that do poorly with the band, or are doing well with with it and then start having problems go into hiding instead of being honest about it. :-(
Maria, I will be a year out on my BOB in June. I am less on the boards due to spending 150% of my time looking for a job. I was laid off in October and I THANK GOD for the band everyday bc if I didn't have band, I would have probably gained 50+ lbs since being laid off. Instead, I am down 60lbs, close to goal, revising my goal, and working out and healthy. As you and I have discussed before, we are all individual and have personal experiences. However, I am really scared by that cow, Carnie Wilson, having this surgery and flabbing her gums!

I sincerely hope that you are the exception. To have re-gain after one WLS is sad, for those that have a problem with a 2nd WLS it must be devastating. Hopefully you will be one of the lucky bandsters!
I also hope you find a find another job quickly!

I'm glad she is doing okay I have wondered about her she was so very nice to me and a happy person .
And I agree just because they dont post dont mean there is a issue with the band and its terrible to "assume" somebody is having problems with the band just because they dont post no more. There is more to life then these boards . Not everybody lives on these boards or feels the need to post on these board just because they have the band or because they use to post on here. More and more people leave the boards then stay especially the last year or so .
