Pain from constipation....
This going on four weeks now and I'm not sure how to regulate mysef. Either I am doubled over in pain from constipation (I go days and days without going #2) so I take Dulcolax (which is supposed to be mild) and end up in the bathroom for an hour....which is agony too. This my life for the past four weeks. I also tried Metamucil. I eat lots of fiber and drink on average 80-100 oz of water a day. I don't know what else to do. Now my stomach is hurting again!!!!
It used to be I avoided laxitives and ate some prunes....but this isn't working!!!!!

4 weeks, you must be miserable!! I'd give Dr a call. I use Colace on occasion, but for me veggies or fruit usually does the trick, but I know we are all different. You know they do sell Dulcolax suppositories, now, that help pretty much right away. (a friend of mine who has not had wls has problems all the time). I hope it gets better soon.

Crystal, have you been checked to make sure your band is in the correct position lately? When my band was strangulating my stomach, I didn't poop for close to 2 weeks and had suffered with worsening constipation over a span of a couple of months or so. I tried everything and it was so painful. But my intestines were bent and kinked so no amount of laxative was going to help, I suppose. It just made my stomach hurt worse. When I finally saw a new doctor, he was astounded that I was still alive. He actually said, "Holy ****!" when he saw the fluorscopy Xray.
I'd recommend checking band position if you haven't done that recently. It could be affecting your bowels.

I go in for maintenance only now. The good thing is my doctor only does fills under fluoro. So I know as of my last appointment I everything was looking good and running well (a couple months ago). But I will call and see if I'm in need of another check up since the constipation is a new symptom.
Thanks for the suggestion.
How awful, I agree call your Dr. You probably need to stay on something consistent for a few weeks. Try MiraLax everyday just sprinkle in your morning coffee or anytime. You can adjust the amount depending on how well it helps you go. Don't stop just because you have a BM. You need to make sure your body is regulating itself (you can be impacted and still have small liquid BM's which are just sliding around the impact sight so you need to be careful). Once you are regular than take a daily stool softener only without laxative and see how things go! Hope you feel better soon! Karianne
I had a problem several weeks ago and used a suppository to get things going, then I went to natural powder (Target brand) in my drink in the morning and a stool softener in the am and pm and am doing well now. I will go to one stool softener soon to see how it is. I also eat part of an apple at night and lightened up on the daily cheese (which can stop you up). Hope you feel better soon, I know how terribly painful that can be!
You have already gotten a lot of feedback to your question. If you want a natural remedy to keep you regular add 1 tbs of chia seeds to your diet daily. They absorb water. I either consume them in a glass of water and lemon juice (think lemonade) or I mix the seeds in with yogurt.
They are crunchy but non flavorful. In a glass of water they absorb some water and become gelatinous. They digest unlike whole flax seeds and keep me regular.
You can buy chia seeds in a natural food store or a grocery store such as Whole Foods.
Good luck!
