13 months out and weight gain.
Hi everyone.
I have not been around for a while... i think because as i walked my journey and I was not getting where i wanted, despite my earnest effort, seeing so much success from other bansters was too much for me to take.
I had the surgery march 1st 2011, i paid cash for it, i recovered well.
I had an emotionally difficult summer so i allowed myself some slack.
I am taking lyrica for fibromyalgia, and am on depo provera... both which cause weight gain. so again i cut myself some slack. Now i am 20 lbs heavier than when i got my surgery. And to gain 20lbs in one year is not good. my forcast is not good.
I eat way less, am aware of good eating habits overall, while i may not be putting my best efforts in i have changed my lifestyle around eating and exersize, with no results.
SO where to go from here. I am off to see my doctor today for a chest infection, and possibly a referal to a bariatric surgeon.
Any suggestions?

Kathy,
I am sorry that you are struggling.
I guess I would try to evaluate what is going on.
Is the band not working? Is it a matter of needing an adjustment?
Are you eating around the band? If so, would a revision help or would you be in the same boat with a different surgery?
Only you know what you eat, why you eat, how you eat, right?
Be as honest as you can with yourself .... If you need to change your choices and behavior, then I would really try to do that and not have to go through the pain and expense of more surgery.
If you are giving it all you have, and the band is just not working for you, then a good discussion with your surgeon to assess your options is definitely a good start.
I wish you luck and success.

Kathy,
I'm really sorry what you are going through. . Is there any other meds they can give you that dont cause the weight gain ?
My mom has to take some meds that make her gain weight also and let me tell you my mom is about a heath freak. She eats healthy, she gets up every morning and does her exercises she is very very health conscious . She struggles really bad with her weight gain medications also .
But on the other hand you keep saying you allowed yourself some slack on things. You had a rough summer so you ate things that you shouldn't and gained weight, and then once again with your meds you cut yourself some slack because of the weight gain and if you are like me you ate things that you shouldn't have because you was going to gain weight anyways and you said to hell with it .
Sounds like you really need to get honest with your food . You might be eating less but what kind of foods are you eating ? I ate Pringle chips , some of a Wendy's cheeseburger and french fries , and tons of peanuts and stayed under 1300 calories yesterday. See where I am getting at .
Me personally I dont think I would give up on the band just yet. Sounds like you just need to tighten the reigns a little tighter and because you are dealing with this medication you will have to work twice as hard to lose the weight .
I hope things get better for you :o)

If your weight gain was caused by wrong choices (like mine was) I'd say GET BACK TO BASICS. However if it's truly caused my the medicine, then I would STRONGLY suggest to speak your BARIATRIC Surgeon. IMHO only a Bariatric Surgeon will know what can/can't be taken in order to obtain best results.
Good luck, and know we're here for you!!
