For all the band haters

Band haters?? No.  We don't hate bands, it just does not work for everyone.

Band quit working for me after SEVEN months and I suffered for 1.5 years before revising to bypass and I am very happy I did it.    I am aware that I may regain some weight eventually, we all do regardless of WLS type.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

Even my surgeon says the band is the HARDEST tool of all WLS and the least successful WLS.

Revision on 04/05/12
My complications came after 7 years. Woke up no restriction. Couldn't identify the source of the leak so needed a full band replacement. I chose to have a revision. I had an amazingly positive successful band journey. See my profile. I just can't chance it happening again. An analogy I think of is car parts (yeah my hubby is a mechanic so it's what I thought of first lol), the tubing and parts eventually will need replacement over time.

After maintaining my weight for over 5 yrs I was devastated I had to have surgery because the band failed not me. I decided in the end I needed permanent. I wish all my fellow bansters so much success!

Thanks Maria!  I'm four days post op and feeling better every day!  I'm really looking forward to progressing my diet beyond thin liquids but I'm down 10lbs so not too bad!  My surgeon said the revision couldn't have gone smoother I had very little scar tissue, I was lucky.  My insurance approved quickly and I was ready!

That's awesome! Sometimes there is so much damage when they get in that revision, or even just removal can take a VERY long time. So glad yours went smoothly!!!

Are you comparing yourself to those who had the Sleeve or RNY just 2 years ago like yourself, because if they are more than 2 years post op its not much of a comparison. Also I think its unwise to compare yourself in success or failure because ultimately youll end up disappointed at some point. I am very happy for your success and hope it continues but its really sort of short sighted to just assume it will always be sunshine and happiness. I was singing the lapband praises as well at 2 years post op but as others have already said there may come a point when you too experience complications. In fact your post is sort of an immature na-nee, na-nee, na-nee considering those who may be coined "band haters" have really suffered and continue to struggle mentally and physically. In your shoes it might be more appropriate to say something like "I am so thankful for the success I have achieved so far and hope to continue on this journey" as opposed to a virtual "in your face!". Just my opinion.

Hi Sarah, how are you doing?

Your words are exactly what I was thinking.  As I struggle each day, unable to revise, fat again, still damaged from the band years and years after removal, this is exactly how this thread came off to me, too... as an "in your face" kind of slap.  Today, especially, since I have another doctor's appointment. The band aftermath just never seems to end.

It is good to see you and I hope you're hanging in there.

I understand about the regain. I have regained every pound I lost and then some, probably.

I was planning a revision, but I was being checked this morning for bladder cancer, actually. Any revision surgery will have to be put off indefinitely.

I do wish you the best, Sarah. I'm sorry you're struggling.
