We are not negative, we are just being realistic!

I have been reading all those posts and some says we are being negative!

HOW SO??  

We are just being realistic   Lap band is the worst WLS tool out there.   Complications are very real. 

I can't believe some "happy banders" have been driven away by the negativity here.  I don't see any negativity here. 

You happy banders need to accept and understand that we are trying to be realistic and warn any prospective banders about the band and its issues.

It wasn't the "worst" for me. 

Perhaps "negativity" isn't the right statement to use about what goes on here.  Perhaps we who are happy with our bands just tire of reading overly broad pronouncements like "worst."

But those of us with failed bands are sick of hearing the band cheerleaders say how wonderful and what an awesome "tool" it is also...................but we have enough sense to know this is a public forum and everyone is has a right to post their opinion on here. Kind of like life. People say what they want to say..........not necessarily what we want them to say. That's just the way it is.

Now as far as the band being the worst...............well it is. Look at the comparison of the 4 WLS. It is what it is.

"We have enough sense to know...."  I suppose I could interpret your phrasing to mean that you feel I don't "have enough sense to know."  But in order to make that assumption, I would have to assume you are a relatively unkind person, who takes some sort of perverse pleasure in being hurtful towards others. 

Oh no, wait, I don't have to assume...your Avatar actually advertises that you are proud of your mean streak.

I stand by what I said.........." we have enough sense to know this is a public forum and everyone is has a right to post their opinion on here.". If someone doesn't understand that then yes, they are stupid. It is what it is. Some members need to stop being childish and getting pissed off everytime someone on the forums disagrees with their POV. It's like the little spoiled 5 year-old that wants to take their little red ball and go home b/c the others won't play what they want all the time. So I'm sorry if you view me as mean, or a crabby ***** Grow up! We have different opinions. I certainly would never expect anyone to agree with me all the time!

I assure you dear.  I quite grown.  And I have absolutely no problem with a difference of opinion.  I have an issue with bullying and ridicule.  Which you seem unable to converse without using. 

I am, in fact, so grown up, that I will cease engaing in this nonsense. 

Again we have a difference of opinion..........which I have no problem with you stating.

Sorry to bust your bubble but according to the stats, the band IS the worst procedure of all four major surgery types.  It provides the slowest weight loss, the least weight loss, the highest regain, and the most complications of all surgery types.

Is that negative or truthful?  Just because you don't like the facts doesn't make it negative.

I think the problem is that communication in this type of forum (on line or email)  is you're unable to hear someones tone or inflection, so it's hard to tell if someone is being negative, a smarty pants, condescending, etc..  

I'm guilty of that.  Sometimes what I write gets lost in translation and comes off  as being offensive, when that isn't my intention at all, and I've also felt that way about other folks and their posts.

I guess its not the message, per se, it's the delivery.  Everyone has their own opinions and these opinions are based on their current experience.  

I don't think its has much to do with the tone, when I say people are being negative. I don't mean when  they are telling true accounts of problems they have had with the band. I think everyone needs to hear that. When I say people are being negative its because I see the same post over and over saying your band will fail, 100 percent of bands will fail etc. I feel people need to know the pros and cons but they don't need to be told their band will fail or they will have to have another surgery when they are not having problems or even if they are,  some problems can be fixed with out surgery. You say people have their own opinions based on their current experience I agree. But when I see a post that says some one hasn't been on because  their band failed or probably failed or having problems. How do they  know that( I am not saying you said that) just saying in general. We all need to be a little more respectful in our post. I know when people are telling their experience because they really want people to be informed  or when they are just being an ass and  hopefully others see that also. Its a very emotional time for some when they are trying to decide what surgery to go with or they are having problems . A lot of the negeive post are not dirrected towards newbies. They are directed to people with bands telling them how bands fail.We all want newbies to be informed and to make a decision that will give them the best chance but we also know all weight loss surgery's have risk not just the band.
