My insurance stated they will pay for my lapband surgery, but I need to prove 6 months of some type of program.  Well my entire life has been a diet! Is there any type of short cut to this or do I need to participate in a program? I've been on a diet to monitor my sugars, does that count? I've also been on weigh****chers since 01/11 but how do I prove that?

My husband was banded in Sept. he also had to follow a program. It could be 6 months with his weight  checked at our primary physician or he could do 4 months with the nutritionist at the Lap Band dotors office. They say insurance is requiring this and weigh****chers does not count any more. All this information with the nutritionist with his monthly weigh in was sent in to the insurance. There is no short cut, talk with your surgeons office and they will help you out with a plan. I was banded in 2007 and they went in my weigh****chers information. My husband went with the nutrionist beause it was less time. He had the choice between the two. He was taught how to eat with the band, protein, vitamins, ect. The nutritionist said insurance wants you to really understand what you are getting into and how to work the band, giving you time to start practicing like you have the band, eating small bites and chewing good, no drinking with meals ect. My husband started in May, had June, July,  and finished in Aug. the sent in the paperwork was approved with insurance and banded in Sept. The time will go quickly. Good luk to you.

Most insurances insist this be 6 mos from when you start this process and it has to be with a doctor supervising it, with monthly visists to discuss what you are doing and what to change. Most of us have had to go thru this process, it's all part of the insurance game and there is usually no way around it. I used this time to learn how to eat without drinking and using small plates and silverware, taking tiny bites and chewing to mush. There is alot you can do to get yourself ready for the actual surgery during this 6 month time. There are some who were never even told they had to eat differently or drink differently and they have had very difficult times of it.

My insurance also required this. I stated that I had done weigh****chers, done atkins, counting calories, also stating walking around track. I also stated if it was successful as how much I lost and how much I gained back. I didn't necessarily have to join things such as jenny craig and nutrisystem. Just me trying to diet was sufficient enough for them
