I've got 8 1/2 cc of saline in a 10 cc band and I really don't feel too much restriction, I mean I do sometimes, especially in the morning, but by night time I can eat alot and unfortunatly I've gained 10 lbs in just a few weeks, it is so depressing.  I'm still walking 5 days a week for 30-45 minutes, but I've also been eating alot of carbs.  I was wondering if I should get a fill.... thanks for any advice...

I have an 11cc Realize band and don't know how much is in there, but it is probably 9 cc or a little more.

Here is how I gauge if I need a fill.
1. I eat lean, solid protein ..... Small bites, 3-4 ounces well chewed and about 1/2 cup of cooked veggie and 1/4 cup of cooked grain or potato.

If that food keeps me satisfied for more than 3-4 hours, I don't need a fill

What I find at times, is that as the day goes on, I lose my focus and I reach for foods that are easier to eat, and I can overeat those foods so easily.

So, you have to decide for yourself ... Are you hungry because you are eating more carbs or are you eating more carbs because you are eating protein first and it is. It keeping you satisfied???

How long have u had your band? If you've had it over a yr. and it's not working for you have you considered revision? More than likely that is your best option.

Bands can be rather fickle.  8.5cc in a 10.0cc band can be too tight, not enough or just right for bandsters.  Even the same bandster at different times...

When was the last time you had a fill?

Also, it's a fine line with nutrition with maintenance.  You probably should do a nutrition log for the next week or so to figure out if you need to revisit proper intake.

It's possible that your band is no longer working for you but I wouldn't jump to that as the conclusion at this point.

I have a Realize band and I have about 9.8 ccd in my band and that is what i needed to be at restriction.  Some of us have to be filled to be at our optimum fill.  I know it can be frustrating waiting in the meantime. Fill after fill.  I waited about fifteen months before I got any kind of restriction at all.  Don't despair it could still happen.

thanks for your advice, I think I may need a small fill, I really wish I could have revision surgery, but I'm a self-pay and I could never afford to pay for another surgery....

There should never be any shame in wanting more of a fill, when you need one! Definitely lay off the carbs if you think that is a big contributor to the issue, but don't feel badly about going more more if a fill if you find you are hungry enough to be making poor choices.

I had a doctor at my surgeon's office for a short time (he didn't last because he was a JERK), who told me that the 5ccs in an 11cc band should be enough and that he wouldn't fill me anymore because I "needed to learn". Um... I had this surgery for a reason-- I need the help! Right?

At this stage in the game, if you do decide to get the fill, don't let them put too much in. The difference 1/4cc can make is huge and might do the trick :)
