I called in this morning and am on clear liquids until I see someone Wednesday afternoon in the Lapband Clinic.  Hopefully there will be an answer/resolution to the problems I have been experiencing.

Thank you all for your help and concern.

Marti,

Is it possible that allergy season is causing you to have some inflammation that is making things tighter?

I don't think that the band tightens .... But I do think that we go through periods of stress and illness that make our stomachs swell.

I would try to get a small unfill ... and maybe try some Claratin or other allergy medicine until then to see if that makes you feel better.

Good luck

Sorry this is happening!   Just a thought?  When you have a food issue do you go on liquids for 24 hours?  then mushies for 24, then soft 24 then regular eating?  If not, I would try liquids 72 hours then the rest 24.  good luck!    And palo alto is a excellent care facility!!  Good luck!

Kath,
No I went to liquids for 72 hours and then went back to foods, though oatmeal and soups qualify as mushies, I truthfully forgot about mushies.  My band surgery was done at Stanford, my medical care is done at PAMF.

go to a different bariatric surgeon if yours can't get u in, and get an upper GI.

Urgent Care is not the place to go for band care.

Any dramatic changes like these really need to be discussed with your band doctor. Blood work isn't going to show anything at all, the only useful test would be a flouroscopy with barium.

I would get an upper GI.  Get in to see your bariatric surgeon immediately.  I've had similar troubles and needed an unfill.  I'm fine now, but it's not worth taking a risk.  Get it checked out by a specialist.  Urgent care isn't equipped to deal with band issues.

You're in my prayers, Marti!

When I hit 3 years out my band continued to tighten for absolutely no reason whatsoever no stress, no allergies, no irritation just tightened! I firmly believe the longer we have our bands the more scar tissue builds up underneath and that is what causes the tightness after being years out. Please call your surgeon and insist on being seen as this is new and causing vomitting. Most surgeons will see you asap if this is the case. You must get a small unfill before you cause permanent, irreversible, damage, this is nothing to let go. I finally had mine emptied because of this and I will never ever get another fill. I'll stay fat before I tighten this sucker again.
