Newbie with uncontrolled diabetes
Hello! I'm new here. I'm just starting to explore my options, I've been researching lap band, mainly because my BMI is less then 35. I've read that the FDA approved 2 years ago for Lap Band with at least one obesity-related condition with a BMI of 30+. So far I've not ran across anyone who had a BMI less than 35 who had a lap band.
I've been about 60lbs overweight most of my life, I've lost before dieting but always put it back on. I have diabetes and high triglycerides, I take about 11 different meds/supplements a day. I can't seem to get myself together.
My Dr is backing me with gathering info about lap band. He says if I get the weight off, most of my meds/supplements will go away.
Any insight on the BMI below 35 will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

We are discussing this in another thread and since I am too lazy to type it over again ;o) ....

First of all, as you know if you have read any of my previous threads..........I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE BAND TO MY WORST ENEMY! However...........even if I was in favor of the band, I would never recommend it to anyone with Type 2 diabetes, since that is such a serious disease, and the band has the lowest resolution rate for that. If you want your diabetes to go into remission the WLS's of choice are:
DS
RNY
VSG
In that order.
Good luck!

I'd have to disagree with you on the order of your surgery types for type II diabetes. My list would be:
DS
VSG
RNY
I just read a couple of studies somewhere that show a few years down the road RNY folks tend to have more diabetic problems than they started out with. Initially, it's great. Years down the road not so much and it wasn't due to regain, it was due to the hormonal chain reaction in the gut with the RNY anatomy.
