Plastic Surgery

Has anyone had any success in getting plastic surgery covered by insurance? If so, what was the process? I got my band in 2006, lost nearly 100 lbs within two years, and have maintained the weight loss since. I'm having issues with my bellybutton...oozing, rashes, etc, and have seen a dermatologist, gyn and pcp.

No -- but I did not have the medical issues you write about.

I just did not like my arms, breasts and stomach --- so I self-paid for a breast lift/brachioplasty and then recently a tummy tuck.

You should read YOUR insurance policy and call them and document EVERYTHING.

Ask your PCP, Dermatologist and GYN if they will document everything and help you get insurance approval.

Many times, the insurance will pay for a panniculectomy (removal of skin below the belly button with no muscle repair, possibly no belly button repair) only.
Some plastic surgeons will do the remaining work at an extra fee --- you need to get in writing what is covered and what is not -- and what they will do for that price and what they will not.

My tummy tuck included a hip-to-hip incision (about 2 inches past on each side), muscle tightening, new belly button, mons lift.
I am thrilled with the results --- and would self-pay for it again in a heartbeat.

good luck!
Kath
