I loved your reply, Steelerfan.  I truly admire the discipline you have used with your band, filled or not. No matter What surgery we have, we have to have our minds right about it.  I too know people that are suffering from results of other surgeries.  I know there were risks with the lapband but comparing the possible adverse outcomes of the other surgeries, I chose the lap band.  I had to choose the risks that I could live with. I went into it fully informed and knew my surgeon's background and trusted his expertise.  Fortunately, my trust was well placed.

On another topic, I think I might need a fill!   I've been waking up for the past ten days by my stomach growling!  It's been so long since its talked to me like that ;).... And I'm getting hungrier during the day every 2-3 hrs instead of 4 or 5 hrs.  So, I am seeing my doc on Friday and asking him to look at my pouch under fluoroscopy to see how the little bugger is now that I am 20 months out and no adjustment since last may.  Maybe I just need .5cc.  This growling stomach is driving me nuts!

5.0 cc in a 10cc lapband  (four  fills) 1 unfill of .5cc  on 5/24/2011.
.5 fill  March 2012. unfill of .25cc May 2012.  Unfill of .5cc June 2014.

Still with my lapband with no plans for revision. Band working well since

last small unfill.

Thank You Jo    I thought about getting a fill when I went in for my yearly check up and when he looked at my band and looked good as far as the fluids going down.  I could have gotten a very small fill and I mean very small lol  if I wanted to but we discussed it and I'm just not comfortable making my band that way and he said it would probably make me a little tighter then I want to be so I backed out .

I'm no perfect angel I struggle to make the right choices , and I have struggled really bad the last three months .  I just got into another zone for some reason and I was eating everything I shouldn't be eating lol.   I wasn't over eating just eating all the wrong foods and snacking way to much on things I shouldn't be eating like chips   Damn Lays Cheddar Sour Cream Chips !!!

Oh I hate the morning growling of the tummy lol.  Nothing worse then waking up to a talking tummy lol.  Especially on them cold winter mornings and you try to get back to sleep and cant cause of the tummy talking.

My problem lately is waking up having to pee lol. I just hate that and I try to go back to bed but oh no I got two sets of eyes following me and stretching on the bed saying they want to go out and potty .

Are you talking about gastric bypass? Or gastric sleeve? Because I think the gastric bypass (RnY) is also a pretty bad surgery for long term success. I've known people who have had extreme problems with RnY, as well.

However, there are even more complications with lapbands than what is divulged. It's still not a good long term solution. Gastric bypass isn't, either.

I hope your neighbor lady will be OK. I feel for anyone who is going through complications like she is.

I wish you continued success with your band! I think it's a good thing to keep it on the looser side, too.

Nicci,

Gastric Bypass. I feel so bad for her she is just miserable !! My aunt had the bypass also and she is so thin and sickly looking I would rather be overweight then look like her right now its really bad.  I hope she is okay also she is looking for a kidney transplant right now so its not good on her part she is just damanged from head to toe right now :o( .

I dont think any surgery is really long term if you think about it though.  Every surgery we can gain our weight back or have problems down the road we just hear alot more about the band , but I dont go to other boards and read them to see what kind of problems they have or how often.  I dont have them surgeries and it has no bearing on me , because this is my one and only surgery for me on weight loss.

Thank you , I am just not willing to take the  risk to lose weight faster to get my band as tight as I can and get down to eating  1/2 cup of food per meal . First I dont think that is healthy to be eating like that and second it dont teach you a damn thing about portion control and nutrition .  I do lose slower without a fill but,  as long as the scales go down and not up its all good

Steelerfan1--

You are right on the money!

Unfortunately, I think some--NOT ALL--lapbanders kinda think that just by virtue of having the band, they will consume less, and therefore, by default, lose weight.  If it were only the simple.

The band motivates me to eat better and exercise.  You know how temperamental bands can be, so I must obey the band....

RESULTS: Of the 380 patients, 128 (33.7%) had their bands removed.

Though I don't believe that is an accurate number (from my observations, it seems much higher!), even 33.7% is a huge % of patients having to have their bands removed! :-(

That was with a median of just five years.

So while over a third of us are having them removed in roughly 5 years which is abysmal, I know those rates SKYROCKET every year thereafter.

You know I was just chatting with a bandsters on FB that is on her 2nd band and will have to revise. She said one of her friends is on her 3rd band and needs to revise! WTF?! So sad!!! :-(

The band has improved, as has the follow up since 2004.
