March 31st Mid Maryland Meet and Walk

Hi All,

It’s almost here!  Our first official Mid Maryland Meet and Walk is scheduled for Saturday March 31, 2012 at 10am.  The Centennial Park main entrance is located at 10000 Route 108, Ellicott City, MD 21042 and I’ll grab a table near the boat rental office.  I plan to set up a table cloth and have a balloon or two so you’ll know it’s me J.  I went out to the park last week and found that there is a small portion of the walking path that is under construction that is under redevelopment but they have set up an alternate path for the adventurous.  The path totals 2.6 miles and there are some “hilly" sections but the whole things goes around the lake and there are benches along the way and I simply turned around when I needed to and came back to where I started.  The boats aren’t available to rent until Memorial Day so we have a great reason to come back!  If you can’t make it this weekend, I hope to also be here the following Saturday April 7, 2012.

PS~ There is a great playground just to the left of where we'll be meeting in case anyone wants to bring kids!

Is this event going to be advertised as a wls event.  No one knows I have the lapband and I live a few minutes away from Centennial Park?  I would love to attend, but I'm concerned about staying anonymous in the community.

Hi,
I'm definitely not advertising it as a wls walk.  I was thinking about sitting at a table near the boat rentals with a couple balloons and just greeting people and maybe handing out a little map of the trail.  I was considering buying a bunch of inexpensive bracelets of one color and handing them out to whoever wants to be able to identify someone along the path as a fellow wls-er.  Not required but just a thought.  what do you think?

Hi Jeanne,

The bracelets sound like a great idea.  I would definitely feel more comfortable with just a bracelet letting only those in our community know why I'm there. I just found out that I may have to go to a funeral Sat. morning, so I may not be able to stop by.  I will make sure to introduce myself to you if I am able to miss the funeral.

Lisa- sorry to hear about the funeral.  I had one to attend last Friday.  I understand.  I'll be up that way hopefully once a month so if not this time, maybe next time.
