My surgery is in 2 days and I'm super nervous.  One thing I've been told is the gas is very painful and to get it to go away is to walk.  I have very bad arthritis in my left hip so walking is very hard to do with my weight. I have gas x strips but was told that doesn't always work..  Has anyone tried other ways of getting rid of the gas pains?  Also, how long are you on clear liquids after surgery before going on full liquids like creamy soups and pudding?

Congrats Stephanie, try not to be to nervous it will be over before you know it, I found that gas x strips did nothing for ne I used the chewables and a heating pad but it really helps is to walk even if its just a little. I was o clears for a couple of days and full liquids for a few more days. Follow what your doctor recomends. Hope you have a speedy recovery

when I had my kids I was told rocking also helps with gas problems so maybe try a little of both. Lying on your left side also helps.
Every doctor is different as to what they want you to eat, call your doctor before surgery and find out, that way you can get stocked up as you won't be in the mood to go shopping after surgery.

  Heaviest wt. 235- surgery wt-203

(Fallen trying to get back on)      Current wt= 215.

You should get a clear dietary protocol from your surgeon's office.

Our docs all have different plans, so you can't really take advice from us on that.

Before you have surgery, you should know
How to eat and when to progress from stage to stage
When your first few post op appts are
When your first fill will probably be
If your band will be left empty or primed with some fluid
When you can bathe
When you can exercise
How to eat on your fill days

As far as gas, any movement will probably help ....so, like burping a baby, gentle massage in the upper back will be helpful.
Stretching and moving my arms helped.

You will have to move your legs to avoid blood cllots ... Talk to your doc about his expectations relative to your arthritis

I'm on clear liquids for 5 days prior to surgery and they kept telling me I would go home to start the full liquids.. Now I hear it may be clear liquids for another week after the surgery.. So I don't know.  As far as bathing I don't see any restrictions in the handbook on that.. I know there won't be anything in my band when it's placed and as for clots I have to be on a week of blood thinners to prevent it because my BMI is so large.. I will take your advice and run with it on the massaging, burping and stretching.. Thanks!

I could shower from day one, but no tubs or pools for 6 weeks ."..
I could walk as soon as I was able, but no weight work or running for 6 weeks

Just more questions for you to ask ...... Seems like all docs are different.

I got a 60 page hand book and still had questions!!!

oh the gas :/ can be pretty miserable but again try and walk as much as u can, even if u have someone to help u!!! every hour atleast 5 mins. Try and not stress your body and just relax- let your body heal... and i was on liquids for 4 weeks after my surgery i was always full and was scare to eat so my surgeon said to take it easy and not to force myself...
Hope everything with the surgery goes well n jesus name:)
