questions on medications
REALIZE Band on 03/08/12
since surgery I have been on 2 meds. A narcotic and an antibiotic, both were in the liquid form. Do you have to have meds in liquid or can you have it in the pill form? I will be starting my allergy med soon and need to know how to take it.
Check with your doctor, they seem to have different ways. After two weeks I was cleared to resume my bloodpressure pill, which I ended up not needing! I take advil in pill form today and my my Bcomplex vitamin is probably slightly bigger than Advil. You might take your pills with you on your next visit and show them what you have.

I take 90%of my meds in pill form.
My dic says that my band should always allow me to swallow any size pill.
To be honest, the Percocet I got post op scared the snot out of me, so I just took liquid Tylenol.
I had a hernia repair, though and think I was more tender than if I had just had the band.
Now, after my tummy tuck, I have been able to take antibiotics, pain meds and vitamins all in pill form.

Even though I haven't had my surgery yet my surgeons office told me to get a pill crusher because I'm not supposed to swallow any pills larger than a tic tac.. The pain meds I filled for after my surgery are in liquid form but that's just because that's how the surgeons office gives it.. Every surgeons office has different guidlines though. But I was quick to buy my pill crusher..
Betty- I had my surgery 5 weeks ago and I had a small infection in my port incision so I had to take an antibiotic. The first round of the antibiotic was in liquid form ( NASTY ), but the 2nd round was in pill form. They were normal size pills that I would have taken pre-op and I had no problems with them at all! I think you should be fine to take an allergy pill! Obviously it may be different with the more fills that you get, but at that point I am sure your surgeon could let you know what they think would be best! ;)

My surgeon told me the day of surgery that the following day I could resume taking my daily meds. He just wanted me to take them one at a time. Now I do the whole handful. I had liquid pain meds and used that until I no longer needed it. It was a big yuk but at least it worked fast that way.
I will qualify my response by saying that if you have ANY problem getting liquid down you should not attempt any pill form until the swelling is down. Contact your surgeon for the final say, what we give here is not medical advice. We can only share our experiences.

I am cutting my larger pills because I am afraid to try them in full size. I crushed for first two weeks post op. Make sure you check with your pharmacist which can be crushed, cut or pulled apart. I ordered singular in the powder form, but haven't had to use them yet. Just using Flonase instead. I haven't noticed any allergy problems and I had been on both for several years. Go figure!
Wanna hear something funny? In the beginning I had so many yucky episodes with food it freaked me out so I started crushing pills. Everything i take is crushable and not time released. So I eventually was without my crusher and believe it or not I chew 2 Metformin 2 times a day I chew Tylenol. Sometimes u get liquid. However I am now doing omega 3 fish oil and it's one honkin pill in a very hard gel. Can't chew so I cut it and pour it down my throat. Talk about nasty.
