Lap Band on 03/22/12
I went to a support group on December 5, 2011 to learn about the lap-band.  After that meeting I was convinced that this is what I wanted to do.  This winter went by so fast here in Chicago because we really didn't have a winter.  My surgeons office kept telling me that my surgery would be in March 2012.  I didn't think it would come so fast.  My surgery date is this Thursday 3-22-12.  I started my liquid diet on St. Patrick's day.  I have to say the first day was the hardest of them all.  I'm getting nervous as the day approaches and keep thinking about all the negativity I have gotten over the past few months about how I shouldn't do this and how I'm going to regret it.  I've battled with my weight my entire life.  The last thing I want is for this to fail.  Anyone getting closer to their surgery date and are getting nervous?  I'm just scared of the going under part even though I've done it before in 2 different surgeries before.  I've also heard that the gas pains are really painful after surgery.  Well I will see, cause it's right around the corner.

Stephanie,
Nerves are very common ---

I did not have bad gas pains after surgery -- I went home the same day, and was out of the house by the next day.  Walking gently helped alot with any referred gas pain.

Best of luck --- you will be on the loser's bench before you know it!

Just had my band 1 1/2 weeks ago. Doing better. have a slight infection around my lower incision was started on antibiotics today. I choose not to tell hardly anyone as I didn't want all their unsolicatated advice. Only my close friends and family know and they were all supportive. As for the surgery part, It's like taking a long needed nap. Your out before you know it and then the next thing you know you are being wheeled back into your day surgery room. But everyone is nervous and you wouldn't be human if you weren't. After Thursday you will join the rest of us LOSERS!!!!!!!!

  Heaviest wt. 235- surgery wt-203

(Fallen trying to get back on)      Current wt= 215.

Thank you for the kind words..  Talking to others who have gone through it is helping a lot.. Sorry you are experiencing an infection.  That stinks, hope it heals soon.

Hi, I had those same thoughts before I had my band. The liquid diet is a major pain but will shrink your liver and make your surgery safer. You are having this surgery to get healthier and if someone else is having a problem with it, it is their problem not yours. You will always have someone who is negative. Focus on your objective and maybe once they see you are doing well the attitude may change. I wish you the best of luck on your surgery day. Mona

That's what I'm hoping for.  I've been heavy since 9 years old and I'm tired of it.  I was in a bad car accident when I was 18 and my left hip was crushed.  I need a hip replacement and can't do that till the weight is gone.  I'm not only doing this to become healthy but so I can walk without the pain of arthritis anymore.

This is a new beginning, not perfect, but totally worth it. I had surgery in Nov. 2009 and I have lost around 75 lbs. I could have done better but I did not follow up with my dr to get adjusted as I should.

I wish you an awesome new beginning, and remember that you have you obesity-help family to walk with you trough your new life.

God bless, Lisa
