Good news!

As some of you may have heard, I recently had a complete unfill due to esophageal dilation and achalasia (a motility problem). Since my surgeon will not re-fill my band even if the unfill fixed the dilation, and will not put any other band in me, I ask her to submit band removal and revision to VSG to my insurance company. Today I received a letter from Anthem BC/BS approving the surgery! According to the letter, the surgery date is April 24th, but it's too late today for me to call my surgeon's office and verify that.

The prospect of losing my beloved band and regaining weight was so discouraging...now that a good alternative is in sight, I feel so relieved! Just had to share my good news, and if any band-bashers want to sing, "I told you so," all I can say in reply is to repeat that nothing about the current course of my WLS journey invalidates anything I've ever said or written about the band.

Jean, I am so happy for you! The way you were treated by some of the "band-bashers" was shameful, IMHO.  You have been a rock of support around here and your book has saved my a$$ more than once.  Can't wait for your next book :)

Jean that is wonderful.  I do have a question for you....You are at goal weight, w/ the exception of the small gain you have had right?  If you get the sleeve will you lose more weight or you are doing it to pretty much maintain what you have lost thus far?  I have given A LOT of thought to revising to the sleeve.

Thanks and best of luck and lots of prayers to you!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm revising to the sleeve because I know I need some kind of surgical tool to help me maintain my weight for the rest of my life. I don't think that weight loss with the sleeve will be significantly different than with the band (for me, anyway). As much as I like the band's adjustability, at this point in my life I'm happy to have a procedure that's done when you leave the operating room. I have to drive so far for fills now, adjusting a new band would be a pain (and expensive, given the price of gasoline).
