I'm 6 weeks post op, with the Realize band. I don't seem to be losing any more weight.  Is this normal? I got my first fill last Saturday. So I now have 4.5cc's in a 12cc band.
Maybe I'm just expecting quick results but I assumed after the first fill I would have dropped more weight. 20lbs seems minimal comparing to all other bandsters experiences i think. Help! Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I emailed my nutritionist to let her know my feelings. Hopefully I will get a response quickly.
Thanks Everyone!

Hi Ginger,

Your body will lose in fits and starts. It's only normal. Don't compare yourself to others. You'll drive yourself crazy if you do.  Seriously, everyone has their own metabolism and their own rate of losing weight. Give yourself more time and be patient with yourself.

20 pounds in 6 weeks is great, in my opinion. A lot of people don't even start losing until the swelling is lessened and they are completely healed, so you could say you're actually ahead of the game!

Thank you so much for the reassurance. I really appreciate it!!!
I guess I should be asking myself what else I could be doing to give myself a push start in the WLS dept. More exercise!

That's the only way I can actually lose weight at this point... if I exercise like an absolute crazy person. I get worn out!

But, I bet that in a month, you'll be surprised that you'll suddenly notice that your clothes are all fitting differently!

Any weight you lose until you reach an optimal fill level is just plain hard work. In fact that is what you will have to continue doing, forever. The band, when it is optimally filled, just gives you a fighting chance to succeed where you never have been able to, before. Don't worry about a 2-4 week stall, they happen. You can try changing out the type of exercise you have been doing, try eating a few more calories for a couple of weeks, up to 250. Those are things I was told will help break a stall and it worked for me as well as others. Upping your calorie allotment won't cause you to gain unless you stay at that level but as a temporary thing it really works.

With the band at it's optimal fill level you can expect to lose 1-2 pounds a week. Anything else is bonus. Some lose more quickly, others slower. Don't freak out, just keep on keeping on. The hardest portion is up to you.

Good luck and congrats on your great loss so far.

Your expectations of the band are a little unrealistic hun. Very few get restriction after the first fill. I've heard 3-5 fills is actually the average, I've also heard 3-7 fills. Who knows? It varies greatly from person to person! After 17 fills I NEVER got restriction. I have heard some bandsters say they didn't get it untill they were a yr. out, 1 1/2 yrs. out. And then again there are those extremely rare lucky ones that didn't even need a fill and had restriction. The band is very much a crap shoot. Some get restriction, some don't. A few get it quickly, most don't. Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones!

20 pounds in 6 weeks is AWESOME!! You must be doing something right!!
I lost 12 pounds on the pre-op.  Then I didn't lose a pound for 5 months until I started getting a little restriction.  I think it was around 7 fills or so....I have an 11 cc band and when I hit 5.5 cc's I started dropping lbs...but very slowly.  I lost 50 the first year, 20 the second...

I was recently unfilled (from being overfilled and not keeping anything down) on 12/8.  I gained 22 pounds!!   So, I'm learning the hard way...I got out of control...I had a fill yesterday and now 3 months later finally have a little restriction again.  So back at it...we can do this!!

I didn't lose 20 lbs in 6 weeks, you are doing great. The average is 1-2 lbs a week, and you will probably hit some plateau's. (I did, anyway) Just keep following your Dr's rules, continued good luck!

Thank you everyone for all of your feedback, advice and suggestions. I appreciate them all. Sue, I will try to increase my intake a little bit. It's so hard to train myself mentally to eat MORE, when for a long while I've mentally been trained not to eat. Clearly I did more harm to my metabolism then anything else!
I will increase my exercise (b/c I know I can do better in this are for sure!).
We can do this!!! I promised myself i would make it happen!
Thanks again everyone!
