So happy for you, you've given the band a good ol' try but now time for something new. I think you'll be very happy with the sleeve, hope someday I can join you!

I do think 4 years is long enough.  I pray that you can follow suit at some point, too!!  I truly do!!

I am so happy for you. I have been following your problems because they so mirror the same problems I have been having.I keep wondering if its "just me" failing again or if it is the band. The surgeon I go to now only does lapband so I don't feel like he would to admit the band sometimes fails. Did you ask your surgeon about revising or did he say enough is enough. You've worked hard we need to try something else? I went and had a slight unfill the same week as your last one. Please keep us posted. Congratulations

Hi Diane, thanks for the well wishes.  Well, not sure how long you have been following my story, but I have had my band for over 4 years now.  Two years out, I had surgery to fix the placement of the band, as I had a bad slip.  The slip was due to having a bad initial surgeon.....he has messed up many bands, RNYs and even sleeves....thank goodness he got run out of Texas!!

The surgeon I have now, is the one that repaired my band two years ago.  I have told him a few times that I wish I had gotten the sleeve.  He only started doing the sleeve almost 2 years ago, before that it was RNY and LapBand only.  I think this last visit convinced him that I have had to struggle far too much with my band.  He could see that I had lost weight from the last time I saw him (which was almost a year and a half ago), yet I needed some fluid taken out because 60% of the time I couldn't eat solid protein.

He said he wasn't worried at all that I had another slip, because I didn't have reflux or any kind of acid issues.  He is a very sweet (and handsome ha ha) man....I think he took pity on me this time.  He says he has seen such superior results with the sleeve over the band, and I think he wanted me to finally see superior results.

Honestly, I think some of our bodies just don't react well to having a band around our stoma.  I know I am very sensitive to water retension, and that plays a huge role.  I hope you can get your issues resolved by living peacefully with your band or getting a revision.  It sucks to have to find out the hard way that you aren't compatible with the band, when so many people are successful and happy with it.

Melly,
I am almost 2 years out. You were recovering from your slip when I started following . Thank you so much for your answer, it really was helpful. I have only lost 32 pounds since surgery...7/10. I work really hard and exercise. My surgeon was really good. Unfortunately for me he had a horrible nut. And he was getting recruted by an out of state hosp. I didnt get much after instruction and then he left. I found another surgeon that would take me, but he is new to bariatrics and only does lapband. So sometimes I worry about his experience. He has given me a couple of fills and I loose really good for 2 weeks, then I have to have some fill out because of reflux. Then I maintain. I want to live happily with my band, but I thought my band would carry his load a little bit. Lol!
Keep us posted, please. I wish you the best on your journey.
